Just upgraded from a Bessa R to an R2A. Is it worthwhile getting LTM to M mount adaptors for all of my lenses? I do find the LTM mount a bit fiddly and slow.

Has anyone else put converters on all their CV lenses? If so, has it made any great difference to lens changing?

Hi,
I will let others answer the question but if you do decide to get convertors, I hahve one that came with my Nokton 50/1.5 and as I will be staying with LTM, it is surplus. I am sure we can come to am arrangement. PM me if you are interested.

I'm looking for a suitable m-mount camera at the moment for my CV lenses. Ease of lens changing and a longer rangefinder base being the two main reasons. Even so your 25mm would fit very well on your bessa R and you wouldn't lose any functionality (except auto exposure). It really depends on whther you want to carry 1 or 2 bodies and what lens you would have on each. If you just carry the R2a then you really need mounts for all your lenses if you carry two assign two lenses to LTM and save some money.

"I do find the LTM mount a bit fiddly and slow."

Well then, putting screw to bayonnet converters on each of your lenses, (turning them into bayonnet mount lenses), would speed up lens changing, making it less fiddly and slow.

I use LTM lenses with M-adapters on my R3A. Having adapters on each lens certainly speeds up the change-over. I certainly have more lenses than I do adapters, but I make sure I have one on each lens I am carrying with me when I am out and about.

I have several LTM lenses and I put the adapters on them all for that very reason. There are three different L-M adapter rings, 50-75, 28-90, 35-135, but Im not aware of any confiuration issues on the Bessa, I understand it to be a Leica body issue. Ive heard of a couple guys using lock tight on their adapters but I use a couple screw mount bodys on ocaision and I always keep a L body with a cap on it and film in my pocket, Its very light and flat without a lense on it. Overall I find it a useable system but a little screwy.

I keep convertors on my lenses that are used with the Leica M's. This includes a Nikkor 10.5cm F2.5 that was bought cheap as it had damaged threads. M-Mount adapter is great on it. The only downside is I end up with two of my favorite lenses, one in "Converted M-Mount, one in LTM.

Given the price of the adapters, I'd say restrict your self to a number of adapters that covers the amount of lenses that you're bound to carry with you at any one time. If you never carry more than three lenses, there's no need for getting adapters for the other 20 in the cupboard..

I have adapters on all my screwmount lenses. I am not planning to get even more lenses, so I have a Leitz 90mm adapter extra. Paid about US40 for it, plus paypal and currency conversion. PM me if interested.

cheers, Rob.
