Returning to your original question, I'm not 100% pleased with the Summaron 35mm f/2.8 (with goggles) on my M240. It's great on the M2 of course, but the corners are smeared somewhat on the digital cam. Even at f/5.6 but does clean up stopped further down. Tiny bit of purple fringing. Will flare into the light, some vignetting. And the Summicron v.1 is similar.

Incorrect. (but it was written this way in older manuals) Most lenses can be collapsed without problem, but collapsible lenses should be mounted extended. This is the latest advice by Leica. I use an Elmar-M all the time. A lens you should not collapse all the way is the old 9 cm 4.0 collapsible.

I would still be very cautious based on that article. You must be very careful not to collapse a lens unless you measure the collapsible portion very carefully, and always mount any lens fully extended.

I just take it as a given that I won't buy collapsible lenses (other than maybe the aforementioned Macro-Elmar-M 90mm f/4). It's simpler that way! 🙂

If I owned any collapsible lenses, I'd keep it in mind.

That would be the 50mm f/2.0 Heliar Classic. When collapsed, the rear of the lens projects inward from the mounting flange by about 1mm. No problem.

The 2009 special nickel finish version does not collapse, also no problem. 🙂

The 50mm f/3.5 Heliar's rear surface, when collapsed, projects inward from the screw-adapter's mounting flange by about 6mm. Doubt that this is a problem.
