is the olympus OM2 the best analog 35mm camera?

I just never really used it that much. Which is my fault and no fault of the camera or lenses. I was glad to buy it, but it was at a time when I was travelling a lot (so not taking along unnecessary / unfamiliar gear), and I've never quite got back to it. I think I took more photos with my AE-1 Program:

P.S. I went through a phase of buying all the cameras I once wanted when young, but couldn't afford. At the time when film cameras were going much more cheaply than they seem to be these days.

My first SLR was an OM-G (1983) later traded for an OM-2s, eventually sold for battery drain issues, and I’ve had this OM-4ti since. I learned on Konica and Minolta SLRs borrowed from friends, but chose Olympus.



It’s flanked by the Exakta Varex IIa and Minolta A7, my only other SLRs, both beasts relatively speaking, as well as the figurative past and future of the Olympus. I use rangefinders and mirrorless cameras more, but always enjoy shooting these 3: they’re keepers.

If this was a poll, though, I don’t imagine OM would be in the top 5.

If this were a beauty contest, that Exakta would win hands down! The Oly is a close runner-up. The Minolta? Umm...

The viewfinder of the Pellix is dreadfully dim, but outside, with all the snow that is on the ground (bright!), the view through the finder seems normal. I have a roll of Efke 25 in the Pellix right now. As for the RT, I need to pull that out and use it too.

The viewfinder of the Pellix is dreadfully dim, but outside, with all the snow that is on the ground (bright!), the view through the finder seems normal. I have a roll of Efke 25 in the Pellix right now. As for the RT, I need to pull that out and use it too.

I loved the way with the RT I could see blinks or unexpected movement during exposure, same as with an RF. I bought one for $25 when film cameras were going for a song.

I went through a lot of film slr's in my life. Hannimex Praktica, Pentax K1000 Super program,Canon T90 A2, Olympus OM3 OM4TI, Leica R4 SP R8, Contax RTSII, Nikon F3 & FM2N. I settled on the OM4TI and Contax RTSII. I like them both equally. It's a problem having the same lenses in both systems. If the Contax had the same meter as the OM4TI that would be my favorite and would have 1 system. There is no "best" for me. Just the ones I like.

Then there are my rangefinders and medium format not to mention a Nikon D780 and a Fuji XE3 for digital.

I wanted the manual OM 3ti with its spot-meter but it was too expensive for me.

You really had to be a dedicated OM user back in the mid-90s with loads of Zuiko for the OM-3Ti to make financial sense.

It was more expensive than any Canon EOS (including the 1N) or Minoltas, more expensive than all Nikon's excluding the F4 and F5 (more expensive than the F3 whilst in production), just as expensive as the Pentax LX and more expensive than most Contax (S2 and ST) !

That's the reason I had the OM3 and not the TI. You could buy a lot of nice Zuiko glass for the price of the OM3TI. Although I still have gas for the TI, I can easily talk myself out of buying a camera I really don't need.

Efke CHS25 - miss that stuff. Used enjoy shooting and printing from it.
