On another photog site I use there is an "Ignore" function which enables a user to put certain threads within a forum, or certain forums or even particular users on "Ignore".
Essentially, this simply blocks the viewer from seeing that thread, forum or user. This enables the user to "tailor" the site to her/his preferences or to avoid "unwanted" threads, forums or people etc.
I cannot find such an "Ignore" option here - am I missing it - or does it just not exist?

click on the offending individual's profile page, and there is an "ingore member" option
edit: I think it's labeled "add this member to ignore list"
on my computer, it's near the top of the profile, on the right.

This is correct. I did a quick look around and do not see any options for ignoring threads, but this is how to pass on a member's contributions. If you go to your User CP you can hunt around in there and choose to not automaticly subscribe to threads that you post on.

This may be a little off topic (or at least a little off likely), but I've often wished this site was implemented as a portal rather than a simple forum. I'd rather be able to customize which forums I'm involved in (like MyYahoo) than get into a thread-by-thread or user-by-user exclude. I've no real interest in many of the fine camera-centric forums on this site and would prefer to exclude them from my view. On the other hand I might like to get an email notification whenever anyone posts anything to the darkroom forum as that's an area of concern for me right now.
This kind of portal-based forum is possible with current technology but I know it would also mean a near wholesale rewrite of the site. So file it under "one-wacky-guy's-idea"

I have to admit, the amount of forums here now is kind of annoying. Even if I could minimize some it would be good! I only have interest in 4-5 of them. The rest just clutter up my browser window!

What we need is an "Ignore all subject lines containing <keyword>" function.
Then I wouldn't have to pore over endless posts about Leica M8 defects...

The more I think about ignoring users the more I realize the jerks make us appreciate the helpful/funny/knowledgeable ones. I always assume 10 percent of any group will be jerks and only think of themselves. Therefore visiting RFF is always nice!

Today I used the ignore function for the first time

It is funny - I used the ignore function for the first time yesterday.
On APUG, where there was a desire to reference anyone that did anything digitally as "fauxtographers," I started ignoring anyone that used that term. I had like 50 people on my ignore list, and eventually gave up the first (I tried to put up a diplomatic but persistent argument).
That's not a knock against apug - it is what it is. And RFF, and PN, and Nikonians are what they are. None of them are owned by me, in any case.

Does this mean, with your return Sir Brian, that we can hopefully expect future Russian lenses that may be sold with the tag "This lens has been Sweeneyfied"?

Actually, I was least interested in the Ignore Member aspect - but included it only for completeness sake in describing my query.
I am mainly interested in an Ignore Forum function because I would like to reduce the screen clutter.
I have absolutely no interest in digital RF's and find that there are numerous threads in that forum - most of which are repetitious etc. (e.g. I just got it, It doesn't work, I just got a replacement, Look at this... etc.).
My RF's are limited to Nikons (and CV R2S "clones") but I like to read about other film gear and general topics - so a selective "Ignore Forum" tool would be very nice to have.
Oh yes, ManGo, I did get this concept from APUG - but why would that bother you so much? I don't think the concept is unique to that site - in fact I think it's a regular feature of the kind of software that drives most of these kinds of sites.
Anyway, apparently the feature doesn't exist here.

I can understand why people want to tailor the site to suit there needs, ie what forums and threads they see when they visit.
But I think when you move to ignore member options you just encourage childish and ignorant behaviour.
APUG? I understand the ignore member function is very popular there.

Brian - the Menopta 53/1.8 is not a lens I have come across. Are you expecting great things from it?
