Is this a legitimate listing ?

Hi Kiu,
I DO know what a good price on an M3 is, since I do have another one (where the rangefinder patch is fading). Similar M3s can be had from the retailers for about $1700-2000.
Yes, I was the runner up. And, thanks, I should try to negotiate...

If it shows up there, you are sort of safe. . . .but Ebay gives the buyer a hard time if they request a refund from a seller. I tried to get a refund on something I bought that arrived unusuable (a set of DVDs that were only partially written, scratched, etc). They were copies of the movies I thought I was buying in legit form. Well, Ebay told me that the seller was unwilling to offer a refund. . . and things stretched out for a bit, and I stopped hearing from both. So, no money back, and no product.

Ebay will NOT just offer you a refund if the item doesn't show up. They'll put you through the wringer and try hard to forget you.

Well, like I said, he is as safe as he would be (or not be) if he had won the auction originally. He bid in the first place, so evidently he is OK with spending his money on eBay, so theres no reason to be less comfortable now.

As far as refunds from eBay, its pretty easy to keep yourself reasonably safe. Just always pay with your credit card. In any given case, you may or may not have any luck getting eBay or PayPal to get money back for you, but you can pretty reasonably count on your credit card company to get your back. Dont receive an item? Its not the way it should be? Etc? Call your CC. It then becomes the sellers responsibilty to prove that you did in fact receive your item. PayPal hates it when you do it, because it means they end up eating the money they paid out (usually) and theyll try to convince you not to because they know that it will work. Chargebacks are very powerful. And if you think about it, any vendor big or small can rip you off (in one way or another) and your last line of defense is always the chargeback. Ive been on eBay for over 7 years, and by following some pretty simple guidelines, Ive only ever been "taken" once. There was a set of pens I wanted with a Buy It Now that would allow me to keep the ones I wanted and make some money on the rest. The auction, however, was in Canada and the seller didnt have the most pristine feedback. Still, it wasnt too good to be true, so I took my shot. A month later, no pens. Called my CC company, and within not too much time I had my $700 back. PayPal sent me a nice email saying "Hey, thats cool you got your money back, but why dont you come to us first next time?" and that was the end of it.

Anyway, I think Ive probably rambled on enough here. Point is, eBay is as safe as you make it. 😎
