Is this due to RF misalignment?

Hi everyone - quick question for you all. By the way, I apologize in advance for my misuse of terminology in relating this story/asking questions.

In my first R2 body (black, which I don't own any longer), the focusing was fantastic with both my lenses (35, 50, and even my 85 if focused quite a bit aways). Unfortunately, I wanted an olive one since it looked cooler, so I sold it and got the olive one. However, I've noticed in my second R2 body (olive), I've had a much harder time focusing.

In the olive body, the entire "range" of focusing from closeup to infinity seems to be less. Also, many of the shots I've taken with it seem to be out of focus, esp. when compared to similarly taken shots with the black body. In fact, I had a much harder time seeing if things were in focus in the RF patch. Is it possible that the throw or range of focusing and/or the viewfinder can be considerably different in the same model body? Unfortunately, the 2 bodies did not overlap in time, thus I can't compare head to head. I am thinking about having an RF alignment being done to see if that's the source of the problem.

Moral of the story: As they say, once you go black, there should be no going back! 😀 I should have just stuck with my original body.... :bang:

Thanks for your help!

Since multiple settings seem to be off on your camera, and since you have wide lenses (the 50/1.2 and 85/2) and need good accuracy, It is messy to do yourself and a good idea to have it done, IMHO.
Good advice. No point in scratching or damaging an olive paint camera by poking a screwdriver in the wrong spots!

But I'd suggest a quick check of the RF window first. Make clear there's no smudge or fingerprints on the tiny RF window. That robs any RF of its snap fast. If that's not the case, I'd go with Roland's advice..

Hi Asim,
yesterday, after reading your post I read also, among the "similar thread", at the bottom of the page this one "http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=299";
there's a post (from SolaresLArrave) about testing the rangefinder alignment with a mirror (that I tried). Hope it may be useful to understand if your camera has the rf misalignament.
Bye
Nico
