Kino Glaz
Kiev Pixel
While looking for Contax mount lenses on eBay for my Kiev, I chanced on this Zeiss Jena Tessar lens which suspiciously looks to have a Contax mount.

Can anyone explain this? The last time I looked, it's bid is already 100$. Is that too much to pay for this?

David Murphy had one of these for sale here a while back.
it is an early 2.8cm wide angle for the pre war Contax cameras.
only f 8 though, but a good preformer.

Yes, it is. Please don't bid
Though I'll let the secret out that only out of poverty is my max only $100. I expect it will go much higher than that (but I tried, just in case

This is it, and it has way more cons than pros.
Pros :
- low profile "pancake" design
- maximum aperture of f:8 will do for a great DOF most of the time
Cons :
- much overpriced for what it is
- you'll have to find the matching Zeiss 28mm finder which sells for more than the lens to have the correct combo
- maximum aperture of f:8 will do for a useless lens most of the time
- very prone to flare
- sharp enough in the center, but pretty weak in the corners
- focus ring and aperture ring being a pita to use
- not rangefinder coupled
- focus must be done by using the lens focusing ring, if you try to focus with the camera focusing wheel you will break the camera internal focusing gears located behind the focusing wheel.
All in all a collector's item, not a user any longer today.
