It Happened Again

Yes, I know, it is becomming rather suspictious and I would not blame any folk if he starts doubting about the rather high pace of good luck, nor I can blame myself for reporting it.

Four days ago I told my "Small Kiev Story" http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52267

and a few minutes ago, also in my way home, it happened again. More or less. Today I ended my daily job quite late. It was raining a bit and cold, so I had to loose any chance for photo-op at the four hundred meters between my job and the bus stop. My flashed Kiev had to find shelter within my raincoat. But of course flash set and battery working.

So I took a bus home, and as entering it I took my Kiev out and went to the bus center in front of the gate out. The bus was rather filled, with quite dim lighting. After a customary scanning I found nothing of interest. So I kept my Kiev out, held as you may hold a small baby. This is going to be a boring trip, I thought and went looking outdoors.

Some fifteen minutes passed and just two stops before mine I notice besides me, almost perpendiculary between me and the exit gate, a couple well into their mid tweenties, passionately embracing each other as in the moovies.

A meter and half from me, two stops before mine.

Ok, I decided that I will continue in the bus untill I have my picture. But the first thought I had was not that. I somehow cursed myself for being holding Iso 100 and flash and had to decide if I am going to put my flashed Kiev into my back pack, and take out my Kiev Iso 1600, disassembled from lens in my belly pouch. This would make a conspicuous photo, which this couple was inspiring to.

But perhaps out of fear for their reaction, or shyness, or whatever obstacle, my instincts told me I will better do by not risking a blurred photo, or/and being caught, so I remained with the flash Kiev, reduced lens aperture by one stop, focused and kept pointing the camera till one of them notice me and I get their approval. Or disapproval.

A totally different picture, yet my neck assured.

The first to notice me was the young woman, which turned her face towards me in a mild movement and slightly shy look. Click ! That's for me an approval. At the same time (and the neg will tell accurately what really happened) the man opened a broad smile from ear to ear.

After all any couple can understand that such ardent kissing cannot pass without anyone noticing it. So they took my presence with grace, I had my pic, saluted the good folks, and went out of the bus at the right stop.

Now the suspense of the latent image: This time I did not enjoy the priviledge of clicking while the bus stopped, I was pending the couple. So in principle half a head may be out. Red eyes ? Closed eyes due to flash? Parallax ? Last frames Kiev overlapping ? Light leaking (before inserting this roll my kiev was light leaking and I made a quick job, not opening the top cover) The lab scratching the neg ? Hard flash shadows ?

Everything is possible, including the possibility, that after all, the exact fraction of second the couple went frozen in my camera - they were not at their best.

BTW, this is the same roll with the other couple.

Cheers,
Ruben

Well done and well told Ruben!

Your Heb-lish only makes the stories better, as I've said before. I look forward to seeing both photographs. (Fingers crossed on the film transport)

The worst part of it is that while Spanish is my mother language, I have lost the facility to express myself with it, after leaving my beloved Argentina at 15.
Hebrew is definitely not a Latin language, nor I got the local accent, so I am a kind of de-classe, wherever I am.

No wonder I landed at RFF. A virtual city of people with film cameras.

Cheers,
Ruben

Thats the wonderfull thing with film, the wait, the anticipation, the HOPE !.
Magic.
Digital like most things now, instant gratification, moment gone, move on, next please.
Geez I'm getting old and grumpy, been working all day with cattle, trod on, bitten, kicked, feel better after a beer. Go get me Kiev and make some images, no, maybe get my dslr and make sure of it !

I'll be better tomorrow.
We wait for Rubens processing.
