You know who you are! Tempting me like that!

I've just run a roll of TriX through my new R3a + 40mm Nokton. Very impressive. My staples are a Canon 20D + 50mm f/1.4 and a Hexar AF. Whilst the bokeh isn't very attractive on the Nokton compared to my other cameras, the sharpness is very impressive. I love the design of the camera.

Just one thing though... loading and unloading films feels very stiff. Lots of tension on the rewind crank, or so it seemed to me. Is that normal?

OK, no offense, but...are you pressing in the rewind button on the bottom of the camera before rewinding? Forgive me, that's all I can think of. I have noticed that winding and rewinding are a bit harder with 'thick' emulsions, but Tri-x isn't one of those.

The rewind on my R3A is pretty smooth. Not as buttery as my Canon F-1 New, but not bad. Maybe your fingers are out of shape from using a digital camera? 😛

No offense taken! My fingers are like courgettes (zucchini) and I have the common sense of Homer Simpson, so that's exactly the sort of mistake I might make, but this time it isn't.

LOL @ sockeyed, whose gallery on flickr was one of the deciding moments for me!

I've found the rewind of my R2A to feel "bumpy" like it wants to spin in an ellipse rather than a circle. Not sure if this is what you're referring to. Other than that I've not noticed anything other than the standard variance in tension as you move from the end of the roll to the beginning.

BTW, it's a little late now but you might want to check some of the other CV lenses for bokeh - I find that my 35 Ultron is really great (sure it's no Leica...but still!)

I don't think I can live with the bokeh of this lens after all. I'm going to try to send it back and get a secondhand Konica Minolta 50mm f/2 Hexanon. The shots I've seen from that lens showing bokeh seem to be very nice.

Brad I saw shows taken with the 35 ultron and thought it was awesome. I'm intending to stick to one lens though, and a 35mm is just a little too wide for my general purpose lens.
