It's official, it is goin to be a digital Pen

Sorry guys I know I post in here once every 2 seconds - I don't want to get annoying but this camera is really exciting to me

Looking at that again I realized something - I bet the rear control "dial" is actually rocker switch - which would be why I can't make out a "dial" looking thing on the rear in the side-on pic, and would also explain that rectangle on the top right corner of the sketch.

If it's a well designed rocker switch and coincides with the ev compensation button well I'll be happy.
 
This leak is obviously working. 🙂 But I'm betting there are some more details that we'll hear about in a few days that will make it even better.
 
well.... we don't know... It hasn't been released yet. Rumors put the price at $990us + kit lens (14-42mm or 17mm 2.8). I'll be lining up for one...
 
It looks - but for one nagging detail - like a killer camera.
That detail for me is the lack of any viewfinder per se. I really can't stand having to compose via an LCD on the back of a camera. I realize this is the way things are now with small cameras. But, for this luddite, it feels all wrong.

Ah.. maybe the hotshoe block pops up to reveal a EVF type built in finder ala the Canon Hansa 🙂

You're entitled to your opinion, as I am mine ... which is that that is pure balderdash. It isn't even officially ANNOUNCED yet, much less released.

Finders are pretty cheap, and given the size of this thing and the m4/3 mount, it can revolutionize digital photography for street/discreet. Others will be having fun. 😀

In the original pen, it had an optical mirror, this digital pen doesn't because it can't to fit in the electronics. Note how the hot shoe was placed directly about the lens mount? That's so that aux finders will slot into there and be fairly accurate with framing.

You don't have to hold a PS camera at arms length, you can gold it by your hip or at half or quarter of an arms length if you want. Or even you can use an AUX finder and hold it up to your eye.

Yup ... now I'm glad I haven't sold my Leica 35 and 21 finders. 😀 😀 😀

OK, i have to admit, that is pretty cute. And I do want a small digi, P&S I think for myself. Not a system camera like I said.

So, I had a nice day today. I had my M2, 35mm lens. It was soo nice to shoot. I have not been meterless in a while. It makes photography so fun and simple. I didn't worry about exposure all the time, just saw the subject and shot. No AF algorithm screwing up, no lights and beeps distracting me, just the simple camera and lens.

But, this EP1 thingy, simple camera and one lens? That 17 isn't fast enough, or is it? That Olympus sensor has never impressed me (honestly, nothing Olympus ever has - I bet I would like the OM stuff though if I tried it), can it perform well, as good as a decent APsC sensor? Is it really small? I hope to see some specs soon, hopefully DPreview or Pop will have a hands on preview next Monday.

We shall see.

The price still sucks though.
 
Looks gorgeous indeed. If it does indeed have in-body stabilization, it could be a winner. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
 
Ralph -- I really need to get an OM in your hands. I think 2.8 is the new 1.8. ANY sensor is at least one stop faster than film, eh? A faster m4/3 lens would be too big on that body. Unless you get the M adapter and go 28 Ultron. 🙂
 
Pany is making a 20/1.7 that looks damn compact.

I had a 35 Skopar on the M2 today, and any compact other than the LX3 has a lens no fast than 2.8, so....... I hope it is a great lens, that will be cool.
