heh, I had first cracks at two brand new in box M6 TTLs. I sold them both and bought a user M6 classic because I didn't want the burden of marring up such beautiful cameras.

Congrats on your new M6 !
My first Leica was an M6 classic in chrome (but already showed signs of wear) and my first lens was the CV Color-Skopar 35/2.5 PII. Worked well until I got my 35mm Summilux-M pre-ASPH as my first Leica glass...
Don't be afraid making scratches, use the M6 and show some photos here !
Cheers,
Gabor

I think Leica gear is like a good journal or notebook, It looks and feels better with use.
So long as you keep the thing functioning and the glass clean, all the scratches and marks are just added pieces of character.

Trust me I didn't take it. He was well compensated for his loss. He was quite happy that I was young and would use it. He told me to send him images from the M6/Jupiter 8 combo.
I was waiting for the shoe to drop and the next post would be an offer to take this bad Karma camera and properly exorcise the Karma, converting it to a proper owner who gets good Karma from removing it from your now tainted hands, for a fee on your part. ;-)
Actually, I try to pay a reasonable price and be fair, that said, if someone has a price in mind and is happy with the deal, plus any time you buy anything used you run some risk of a repair situation. Am assuming you did not block the gentleman's wheel chair and hold his cat for ransom to twist his arm to sell. I have given away some good cameras, hopefully to good hands, and sometimes to great hands, made easier by the knowledge that the camera was going to good use and I was not going to use it.
Use what ever lens you want, but I agree the glass and light make the image, so any sound box with a proper shutter and reasonable exposure should give similar results. The ease of use of some cameras is highly personal, and will affect your comfort in use. A good price also affects your comfort as well. ;-)
And, you probably can pass along your FSU glass to the appropriate home when you are through with it.

An old friend Max said "There is no such thing as a scruffy Leica", and yes, I have a user M2 with M4 finder because the scuff marks made it undesirable for the store taking the trade, so I got it for the trade in price, otherwise, they would not have accepted it at all.
My friend at the store just drop shipped it to me and sent the bill with a note that I had just bought a Leica, one of the best deals possible, as I can comfortably use a terrific camera. Now, if I can find that quick load conversion. ;-)
Black bodies, especially paint, are almost always more valuable at trade time, but I have always felt chrome is more practical and durable. Genuine wear is patina.

The guy that sold it to you probably had 200 pristine boxed cameras, and maybe one or two snapshot prints of a cat or a test chart sitting around somewhere in a drawer.

I got the feeling he used his fair share of cameras. We talked about his Hassy's, Kiev 88's, Nikon SLR's and Canonets. He adored the M6 but he said he would never part with is Leica IIIA. He contacted Leica about the serial number. It was bought in 1936 or 37 (I can't remember) in Berlin. He showed his favorite photo that he took in Paris with the IIIA last year. He told me "A IIIA in Paris just feels right". I'll have my own stories one day with the M6.

Enjoy your M6!
I have mine since june and I am totally in love with it. And as much as I love the old touch of my Summicron Collapsible, I am very happy with my new CV Nokton 35/1.4.

Hey, let's not forget all that great Canon LTM glass from the 1950s! A lot of those lenses, along with the Nikkors, bested most of their Leitz contemporaries, and still hold up quite well against modern lenses, depending on the look you're after.
