I'd suggest putting this in the first post for newcomers? (Haven't completely forgotten the topic).

Like nearly everything one sees, there really are no designers!
Cameras are plastic blobs. Cars are all the same, in fact different makes share bodies, modern music is many time the same music track!
I guess it don't matter as everything has a time on it..

hingAnother reminder of how I really, really, really. really hate post-modern design.

The previous charity one-off from De Silva was better.

No hot-shoe or X-sync ?

The best camera is one that still works!
My guess is that Miley Cyrus is after this and will be at the auction with that big plastic finger (washed hopefully) ... hence the recent sale of her Nikon N80 SLR!

I think everyone is forgetting this isn't a production camera, but a design exercise by a well known designer.
They are going to make a one off and sell for it for charity, so ease of use having a great feature set or good performance aren't what's being sold here.
You won't find a review of this camera–that's not the reason for its being.

I love it. Mostly because it's a fine gesture that will hopefully put a lot of money to a good cause. The more money they raise the better looking it gets.
Kudos to Newsome, Ives and Leica for doing something good.

Quite. And empty pretentiousness is still empty pretentiousness.Inverse snobbery is still snobbery.

i don't find ive all that impressive anymore
ios7, new mac pro are really not my cup of tea
Oh my goodness! ... they were both copying Bang & Olufsen all along, I'm as shocked as a professional designer could be that someone should take inspiration from another's work ...

Hi,
I'd say it was a craft; you take raw material (usually reality) and turn it into something else. Sometimes a thing of beauty and sometimes the opposite.
Sometimes journalists write about not being able to write and that is craftsmanship of the highest order.
BTW, craftpersonship doesn't sound right, does it?

No, no, you misread my comment totally. Anyone with your awareness of design is EXACTLY what the RSA needs. That's why I'd be happy to nominate you.
Cheers,
R.
please pardon my misunderstanding, i like mockery and i misread it as often as i use it.
as i said i love apple design prior to jobs departure, it has nothing to do ive designing imac. i am aware of such. but after jobs's death none of the design gave me the same sparkly feeling as it did from the first iphone4
new macbook air are just the same macbook air
macbook pro retina is only a logical upgrade from a combination of iphone-high dpi screen and elimination of disc drive for sure will make things flatter
mac pro is boring
ipad's wedge shape was old the since ipad2 was released
i understand the late delivery of a good IGZO screen to lighten up ipad3 but ipad4 was lousy
iphone5 plating issue shouldn't had been missed from prototyping stage, it's odd that people left out, 5s's dark silver was a nice tribute to iphone edge but a little late.
i guess ive needed some of his design get thrown out of the windows to drive him harder.
afaik, the rest of the industry are not catching up fast enough, but that's more likely to be a cost factor than lack of talent
i am still tempted by ipad5, but i am holding my iphone4s until 6 comes out
there, that's my opinion

Actually the hardware during Job's era was mostly Ive, the OSX and iOS were full of skeuomorphism, you know faux leather address books, Web browsers with brushed metal, scroll bars that looked like jelly etc.
Nice if they floated your boat...
Everyone can comment on design, and Jony Ive being influenced by Dieter Rams is no bad thing.
As for the RSA please find my resignation, I don’t want to belong to any club that will accept me as a member...
i believe only the ios7 was fully ive's vision, skeuomorphism was mostly jobs's and the fired head of software guy who was blamed for the apple map inception effect. i have installed ios7 update but i rather have io6 evolved by the 7's theme, the folder's background shades is totally incoherent with the wallpaper's
i am ok with paying tribute to designs or in love with a certain design language, in fact i agrees with apple's design too, more so than sony's approach to sci-fi everything to no end

Hmmm, the title says "Jony Ive Helps Design the Most Gorgeous Leica Camera Ever" and I'm sorry to say but I disagree. I don't even think grogeous applies to any camera design I've seen or used. Perhaps functional is the word I'd prefer or neutral for cameras.
EDIT (2nd thoughts) I guess the "Hallo Kitty" version of the M series Leica is the exception, but lovely rather than gorgeous. I just wish it was real as it's a first class example of mickey (euphemism) taking.
Anyway, most of them have the shutter button and speed dial on the right and the rewind handle on the left and the lens in the middle at the front. I'll that that is a good thing, unless you're right handed.
I wonder if it will raise all that money too...

Good looking piece but it seems pretty applefied Leica M10

Neither Jony Ive nor Mark Newson were trying to design a camera.
They were stylizing a camera for a one-off charity auction.
There's a difference.

Absolutely!! So everyone mentioning the lack of X sync and all the other features they expect should remember that, it's just a one off for a glass case made to raise money.

Well, it's not a work of art and it's not a functional camera, so what sort of person IS going to buy it?
