I've just won a leica M3 + summilux 50mm for 1300 USD!!!

So how much would be the price for a v2 with that defect at the rear element?

The defect is to me not very clear on the photographs.

I took a second look. The rear elements are cemented together. This looks like damage of the cemented surfaces caused by high (or very low) temperatures (balsam fracture). Too bad that it is right in the middle. Many of the early v2's suffer from this. Damage like this will show up as a black spot in the specular highlights in the (unsharp) background.

Erik.

I would wait until you receive the camera and lens and have them serviced before you celebrate. You may well spend a lot more than you had bargained for just getting it working properly...

Personally I always steer clear of damaged goods.. And I have noticed that they often attract very low bids on eBay, so I guess I am not alone.

Sounds like a solid deal to me. Give yourself a pat on the back.

If the viewfinder is relatively clear, you don't detect any holes in the curtains, and etc., shoot it like you stole it! Don't get it serviced until it needs servicing, or you feel like you have the money to have it done.

Have fun with it. You just bought a damn Leica!

Not too bad. I got super lucky with one purchase once, M3 with 1 mil+ serial (sold now), Summilux 50mm V2 first batch <1844365 (kept it), 35mm V1 Summilux steel rim M3 version (sold now), for a idiotically low price of something like USD $1900 equivalent.

Seller claims that they are CLA'ed.

I agree with what Ansel said. It's also possible the camera has been CLA'd by an incompetent repairman and then you might be in for a really nasty surprise.

Plus, not long ago Meister Camera Hamburg offered a Summilux for about 800€ (focusing was slightly less smooth than normal and otherwise Exc+ condition) and a M3 in significantly better cosmetic condition is not that expensive either.

I cancelled the transaction...🙁 I realized that I am going to pay enormous customs fees and still I am not sure about items' condition. It was risky and returning the items would be difficult and costly if I wouldnt be happy...

I think you did the right thing. I'm always wondering why people say the camera is just back from a CLA & then goes of all places, ebay to sell. I realize this is a pawn shop & the seller to the shop is the one who had the camera CLA'd but if so then why sell it to a pawn shop?

wowwww what a letdown. customs fees can be avoided easily by driving over the border and picking up the item in the usa.

decemented lenses are not a serious problem. recementing a lens is something a child could do - seriously. i think youxin ye does this quite cheaply if you're nervous to do it by yourself.

you had scored a really fantastic deal here IMO.

Odd... the seller claims to be in Lewiston, ME. I guess he posted the camera in the eBay.com.ca site...

The deal is nice, even if the camera is a user. The lens really sweetens it... 🙂 Sorry you had to cancel the transaction, but you'll find another one somewhere closer. Best of luck!

sorry, assumed the OP was in canada from the ebay.ca link.

too bad about that transaction though. sounds like an older person or unwitting family member putting up the camera.
