I am in the process of trying to service a J9 for another member. As well as the stiff focus and collimation problems, an element was loose and the aperture was difficult to move and wouldn't open or close fully. Now that the lens is stripped down, the reason for the latter problem has become obvious. The first photo shows the aperture ring having been removed from the camera. Notice the missing pin. The offending blade is in the second picture. Unfortunately, I can't work miracles and I need a replacement.

Has anyone got a dead J9? The condition is imaterial as long as I can get a replacement blade from it.

Regards
Kim

Kim,
I only have one J-9 and it's fine so no help there. But, I do have two or three other FSU lenses that aren't usable. If you think any other lens might have the part you need I'd be happy to send the lens.
Specifically I have a J-3 that's pretty awful and an Industar-61 that also has aperture problems--the adjustment ring simply turns continiously ( with out adjusting anything).
Let me know!

Most J9 have a surfit of blades - wont it re-assemple with one missing, your customer may accept this rather than wait, for a parts to be available?
Noel
P.S. i still owe you a CD Rom from 28Oct trip sorry.

Indeed, I have reassembled it with the damaged blade missing. You can see the gap where the blade should be but it appears to have very little affect on the opening itself. Anyway the collimation is next so I will see how it behaves.

I would still like to get a spare blade though, it's much nicer to be able to do a "proper job". 😉

They may not have kept the blade lengths the same through the factories and over the years...
I was going to use a pin vice rather then assume j3 were all the same...

Is the J-9 in Kiev mount as my J9 has a damaged mount, I'd be willing to negotiate £ etc...

The J9 mount is for the external bayonet the J8 is an internal mount so alas they are completely different.

But thanks for the thought. I should really try the pliers first, and then a file, but it would be easier to do a substitution. The pliers have very limited access as the problem is in the inside face of the mount and difficult to access other than from inside.

So I'm not completely stuck yet.

Hard to describe really Noel , Basically the aluminium aperture ring has been gouged and torn at some time . It has no effect on the lens , It's cosmetic damage more than anything . I will probably pick up another lens when I get around to sorting the camera out .
