New York January NYC Meet-Up

Talking about printing, I finally got rid of the H/P printer. The heads needed to be
replaced again at another $250.00 and they only last a year or so. I decided it was
time to go, I'm using the Canon again. I'm glad your getting use out of your Epson
Cal.

The Peter Turnley booksigning and lecture was like a mini-Meet-Up. I saw a lot of people I knew, and the event was very worth while.

Anyways Peter is an interesting person and photographer. The Leica Store Soho was a bit overcrowded, and the NYFD likely would of objected to the size of the crowd in the space. I even ran into Louis Mendez.

I saw John Kreider, the Leica Product Specialist for the SL and "S," and I asked him about the new AF 50 Lux adapting to the most recent release of firmware. I also saw that the Leica Store Soho has a AF 50 Lux on the shelf, confirming that the lens has been shipped to dealers.

I definitely will be testing that AF 50 that I await. I already have the updated firmware installed. This will be my first opportunity to try a production AF 50, having only tried the pre-production version with old firmware back at PhotoPlusExpo.

A wonderful event.. Always nice listening to Peter describe his work in detail.

Bob,

Epson(s) plural. I own a 7800 and a 3880.

BTW I have a new battery for a Nikon D3 along with the receipt from B&H. I no longer own my D3X.

A while back Tung gave me his HP 9180. I took it home on the subway and broke both my arms. Never used it and then gave it to Andre.

POSTSCRIPT: I have about 120 sheets of Jon Cone Type 5 to print. Less than 14 hours of printing time so I might have a few prints coming to the January Meet-Up.

Do you want to part ways with the battery, I could always use a new one for my D3.
drop me a private message to let me know.
Thanks

That's great bring it next month at Jan. meet, I have a lot of
time now so I'll be there.

Bob,

One year Ann-E-verse-city it is.

January 15th. I'll be 59 years old and older than I ever thought I would ever be.

February will be the eighth annual Camera Beauty Contest (Circus).

Will we have any special limited edition ann-E-verse-city cameras or gear in February? Let's make 2017 crazy special. LOL.

Go back to your boring D610. And you all know I'm not wearing anything with camera names on it. I heard the scarf is now a prize in February.

John,

At this point Bob's scarf might be collectible. It actually is kinda famous and well known, it has a history, and now it could be considered a vintage scarf.

Anyways I see value added. LOL.

Well, diversification it is in finances. Seems like not only that F5 went into the futures stocks but you also got into "free" scarves and futures. Ha!
Who knows what a world behind scarves there is...

Jordi,

I am a lucky guy.

I found a Leitz tripod on Broadway near the Leica Gallery, and gave it away as a prize one year.

I found a Contax T3 in its black leather case in Williamsburg. I almost stepped on it and came pretty close to crushing it.

I got an Epson 7800 (Jersey Barrier) that only made 1802 prints over its nine year life for $100.00.

Don't forget too that I have a reputation for day-trading cameras and gear. Also I am known for loan sharking art dealers.

At Adorama I had a manager/owner read me the riot act because I was returning a lens. The guy told me I returned about $10K worth of gear over a two year period. He had a computer listing of all my transactions over the years so I asked him actually how many tens of thousands of dollars worth of gear that I did not return. Then I laid into him that in their used department about half the gear I take home to try does not work. Supplying batteries would allow for testing in store. Much of the items I bought were defective. And of course since it became the culture at Adorama to return goods why not borrow a lens to test that body that is the item I really came for.

"So do you want my business? And are you going to give me a full refund or a hard time?"

Anyways I got my say and my refund. BTW I "borrowed" a Leica R lens to test my Leica SL2-MOT that I bought for $279.00. Of course the meter did not work and the prism was desilvering.

Then I had the balls to go back to buy yet another Leica SL that was all trashed, dented and obviously had been used as a weapon in in a street fight that luckily had a perfect prism and a working light meter. Paid $200.00

Anyways then I had Sherry assemble me one perfect camera out of two parts cameras. The street fighter version of the SL2 was so beat up that the lens mount needed replacement.

Anyways I rescue cameras. Some people might say I'm mean (like that Adorama Store Manager), but know I have a soft heart for old cameras. LOL.

Next year is going to be another big year that goes fast. Maggie also knicknamed "Lady-Bug" by a super model due to her small size has been approached by a modeling agent, and sometime after the new year Maggie will have an agent in one of the top agencies in the world.

I am currently number six on a list who pre-paid for a new AF 50 Lux for my SL. Around the beginning of February I should be getting my Monochrom back with a new sensor.

The Piezography Pro seems very well suited for my Monochrom files, and it has become evident that I can extract and tease out even more detail and tonality than my old K7 splitone. The prints I am making now kinda crush my old ones, and I haven't yet printed large to exploit the scaling factor where the larger prints take advantage of magnifying the higher resolution, broader dynamic range, and longer tonal scale.

Wishing everyone and their families all the best in the New Year.

I stopped buying Adorama used for the same reason.
It's clear they do 0 testing on equipment before putting it up for sale...

Wow! Especially that Contax T3 probably lost by some hipster, those machines held up a lot of value.

When disposable income goes up here, I may as well do the same. Only rescued a Nikon F80, it cannot complain much because I take it down to the beach quite a bit.
Today I was overtaken by a "Californian" spirit and rode a mile over the sand with the low sunset sun... Not so fun was the scrubbing afterwards to take all the sand off the bike geartrain. I can imagine it could wreck havoc in classic camera innards... So if I see Film AF Canikons for $20 or less, I grab them for that careless use. :D

Bikes are a different thing, but I have a softspot for 80-90s MTBs and spent quite a while browsing classifields for such bikes earlier this year. Thankfully it's not practical and I already have Dad's 1982 MTB to commute in town.
I'm still in a limbo under a student budget so I still have to keep things simple.

NYC being a good center for film photography (Japan was but the prices for film really rose), I went both to B&H and Adorama to grab some goods while I was there.

B&H was quite "guided", grabbed some Portra and I was directed to the cashier and not let to roam free the store. Amusingly they send me the catalogue across the pond.
Adorama was surprisingly more personalised. In both I didn't get very close to the used cameras. Told myself to keep a tight budget on the NYC trip so no room for GAS.

Being younger/internet demographic makes me distant of the physical store experience.
