New York January NYC Meet-Up

John,

For me it is just the opposite. If I am not deeply involved and going all the way unrestrained I get depressed. Call it a personality disorder. LOL.

Anyways, currently I the most happy I have ever been.

I guess what I mean is I'd rather go out and photograph than talk about gear and the minutiae. I go on forums during work, but when I'm off....I don't. I go to the meet-ups to see you guys, not for the gear anymore. OR perhaps I just haven't found the next thing to obsess about.

I don't think you even know what a fanboy is. You guys all exhibit more fan boy behavior than me. I just use the stuff. I don't dream all day about it with drool coming out of my mouth and / or obsess over trivial details.:D

I find myself going towards the latter as well. Of course gear drooling sets in every once in a while (Oh 2.8 rolleiflex!) but thinking that I've got stuff to put more use and alternative things to spend the cash subsides it.

I love cheap gear because I can use it without babying -- over the water into the sea and hands almost wet, EDC in jacket coat. My Olympus had paint scratched off and "brassing". Gear like Leica and nice Rolleis I'd baby much more.

I forgot about travel. Can be a bit expensive, requires timing and often can be enjoyable + shooting shooting shooting.

For months I could hop into some european city but was not into it, being off the road just because; also I'm going solo which doesn't quite interest me for some locations plus a "been there, me too factor" (Cuba, Iceland, Thailand, Vietnam), people from here just all went to Thailand or Vietnam this year.

NYC was a blast however. I have to get to SE Asia because I have relatives in Philippines; but for months couldn't time it, perhaps I should have a "F* off everything, I'm leaving" and just do it. I'm in a work situation which is on call/standby and when it comes down to planning a trip I have too much of "let's see my schedule then", ending up in nothing.

Sure sure. Be in denial John. It's ok:D:D:D:D

John,

I have a new obsession: printing and making books.

As far as gear goes I'm kinda set, in fact I likely will be culling down as much as I can.

BTW we expect in February my gal in a big luxury camp-pain in all major fashion magazines shot by "Uncle Terry." She now has 70K followers and she will be released in some event in February just in time for Fashion Week. Part of this might mean I get into the "tent" now that she has a big time agent.

This Thursday at Milk Studios is the MFA show for SVA grads. This is an invite only event and should be fun.

Hi-Fi fluctuates but usually involves a very modified 1960 Dynaco ST-70 and an even more modified 1957 Ampex preamp or a semi-modified Hafler preamp from the '80s. KEF speakers. None of it is high-dollar, but all of it sounds good. I take my copper with plenty of oxygen, thanks. I can't hear a difference between cables unless it's absolute crap. Too many years of gigging. 12Ga zip-cord works fine for me. I just can't devote the time or budget to being a full-fledged "audiophile", whatever that means anymore. I just listen to what I like.

Of course I had a Dynaco ST-70 that was hot rodded too.

BTW I have two 1980 G&L L-1000's with the cool "lawsuit headstocks" and slotted pickup poles, as well as a 1977 "B00" Pre-Ernie Ball Stingray in a rare white finish, and a likely Prototype 1980 sunburst Stingray that not only is one of the early rosewood necked Stingrays, but also has an alder body.

My bass amp is an Aguilar DB-359 and I use Euphonic Audio 12 inch Wizzies that are small folded horns.

I am a tube slob. LOL. Know that When I lived in Williamsburg I lived about a block away from Main Drag Music.

I'm assuming you meant to say "snob", but i kinda like the implications of the former!

Count me in, I'm a tube slob, too! 😁

Pentode,

Trying to stay humble, therefore I am a "tube slob."

Anyways there are tube amps out in Long Island, some in public storage, and of course in my crowded apartment along with "why do they have to be so big" speakers. LOL.
