I've been to Japan several times over the last decade, and have spent many hours looking (and buying...and lugging home) lots of gear...however I was not into RF at that point....so I never really took any notice as to the 2nd hand market for RF gear. I know the classics will be $$$ or ¥¥¥ but I'm not really into that, more looking of CV current 2nd hand gear....any thoughts on value for money, good dealers etc.

I'll be in Tokyo mostly.

Non-Leica RFs are to be found aplenty at good prices too. MAP Camera in Shinjuku is as good a place as any to start - they'll have new and second hand. www.mapcamera.com. If you can't navigate the Japanese then click on the English link where you'll see a map to the shop and a form that you can send questions to them. Bought my R3A and 40mm from them (both second hand) and no problems to date with either of them.

Thank-you

Thank-you

Yes I know map from my prior visits, but as I mentioned never bothered looking at RF...also any idea about 2nd hand epson rd1.....

Thanks

Bronek

any other pointers would be appreciated

To be honest I haven't noticed many rd1 on sale - either primary or secondary market. this guy (www.sushicam.com) picked one up for a good price so you may be able to get some information directly from him. I think that the updated rd1 was of limited release in Japan only so you should perhaps have a look out for one. I know of other shops but not by name just location - i.e. around Shinjuku, Shimbashi or Ginza. If you can pick up a copy of Asahi Camera or Nippon Camera in Australia then the back pages carry lots of adverts for shops selling second hand gear. November's issues are published in the next day or so. will scan a few pages and email to you if you want. Also happy to meet up and take you to a couple of shops and perhaps do some shooting. drop me an email if interested.

Hi there , thanks very much for the information. My ex-assistant (photography) is now living in Japan -teaching english, so I'm going to ask her to go scouting for me.
I need to send her out to find some hire rquipment anyway, I'm shooting for part of the time when I visit in feb.

May I ask how long have you been living in Tokyo?

Take care

Bronek

Came over to Japan from England at the end of 1997. Had a couple of years in Singapore between 2002-04.

One place for rental: http://www.maprental.com/index.html. I know of another place round the back of Omotesando/Harajuku area - will dig out details.

I'm out most weekends in different parts of Tokyo shooting, so if you're looking for a particular location then I'm more than happy to add another pair of eyes to your search. Just holla if you need anything.
