While we’re being smart, maybe have a think about Miyazaki and why you thought there was an exclusive dealer relationship with your friend.
It’s amazing how little people know about his dealings and what they choose to ignore.
Looks like we have a hater in our midst... plain and simple.

Yep, there’s no substance to anything I’ve said.
He’s honest about what he’s selling.
Or you’re an idiot.
One or the other
Look at the original posts in this thread by HHphoto and others. If you don’t get it, that’s on you.
I think it’s worth saying again I’ve got no issue with him selling cameras and whatever.
From all accounts he does a great job of that and offers a good service.
Not drinking the kool aid on the other garbage though

I don't think I'd even know about Mr. Miyazaki's lenses if not for the publicity they had thanks to Bellamy...
Same goes for Kanto Camera and their work, I really enjoyed his video about this workshop.

Neither would I?
I don’t understand why you’re just saying words.
You enjoyed a video he made. Great?
He publicised these lenses. Awesome
How do either of these things have anything to do with him lying about film?
I think it’s probably time to get off dementia island here and go take some actual photos.

Exclusive dealer relationships and Miyazaki-san? Haha that's a good one. Miyazaki-san himself didn't ever think he had any exclusive dealer relationships. I commented about that some years ago here.
There’s no issue if Bellamy came out and was honest about what the film actually is. He won’t though. That, in my opinion, is gross.
Have you asked him why he won't reveal what the film actually is? Its a genuine question. I haven't followed this discussion in a long time, so I don't know if anyone has asked or not.
Ikigai... always thought that was a pretty cool name for a business.

I’m not sure if you’re being deliberately obtuse or you sincerely don’t comprehend. Running a business isn’t despicable. Being dishonest is.

Support companies that actually MAKE film. How is this hard to understand?
1. I've never heard or read Bellamy state that he physically makes his JCH films in his basement.
2. There are plenty of rebranded films being sold out there without people accusing the companies who sell those film types of being dishonest.
3. Selling products under a brand, which are NOT manufactured in the brand's facilities but by third parties is extremely common, be that film, cameras, electronics, food, vehicle spare parts, whatever. If you didn't know that, sorry to disappoint you. In many cases, you may never know who actually manufactured the product, or you may find that out by doing your research if you care that much. Most reasonable people see no dishonesty in that.

When StreetPan first came out, Bellamy claimed that it was a totally new emulsion, made under contract just for him. That is not true; as many have noted, it is an existing film that he put his name on.

IF, and I repeat if, that's the case, he may be guilty of deceptive marketing. But a false step does not lessen the guy's contribution to keeping film alive, that is way more than adding a (new or otherwise) film product to the market.
On a slightly side note: Lots of huge brands have built their fortunes on much worse sins than deceptive marketing and have rather serious ethical issues like exploitation of the poorer (or children...) and the environment, yet to my astonishment never got punished by consumers.
As for film products, I suspect that the majority of analog photographers mainly care about two things: how a film type performs (handles, looks, dries, scans..) and its price. I for sure have been shooting film for 30 years without caring about who actually makes my film. Perhaps I shoud try to be a more aware consumer.

"Now, I couldn’t have a completely new emulsion made, so I decided to go with an old discontinued surveillance film that was original made by AGFA, and have it put back into production. And thus JCH StreetPan was born! So this is a re-born film, not a re-spooled film that is still being sold. This is also not an ‘old stock’ film or a ‘pancake’ that was kicking around a ‘dusty warehouse’."

I don't know what has been said and when, but the above, apparently from 2016, can still be found on the JCH website. Granted, there is some marketing wiggle room there, but it's not like we know the exact origins of many other newly branded films either.

The only time I've seen someone outright lie about film origins was Macodirect / Rollei with their vastly expired rubbish slide film.
Everyone else like Berger, Kosmo, JCH have been pretty much honest and upfront. Why lie anyway, its very easy to figure out what you're selling..

JCH point & shoot camera speculation, news, rumors, and wishlists
All sounds rather like lomography.com - some sort of edgy/whatever film; P&S film cameras (doesn't the LCA line fit the description or possible/likely outcome?); some sort of digital-side stuff (scanning paraphenalia in the case of Lomography).

Calling a moderator an idiot isn’t particularly smart. It’s plain to see though that you came here with an ax to grind. I’m just pointing that out.

There is no 'wiggle room.' He outright LIED. He did not get the AGFA surveillance film put back in production; the film he's selling IS an old stock film, outdated film that he had spooled to sell.

I think our point here is the same. There’s no exclusive dealer arrangement.
I’m also not sure why you think this is some sort of gotcha. I know you’ve lived in Japan for a long time. Long enough to know what’s going on.
We sold street pan at one stage. I even wrote a review for it that’s on petapixel before I knew the origins...and before Bellamy tried to tell us how much it could and couldn’t be sold for.
Also why are you some middle aged white dude with a Japanese name and profile picture lol
I’m not suggesting I’m a Chinese meal but I guess we can all do the same digging

There is some wacky logic in this thread:
1) I know someone that once did something good; therefore, when they do something bad there should no recriminations.
2) Other, more powerful people have done wrong things that haven't been punished, so some little person who does something wrong should also not be punished.
oh my...

there was a JCH image posted in 35mm photography group on FB a few years back, it generated comments about what film it actually was, I commented that it most probably was an Agfa surveillance film , Bellamy himself then fired at me writing " that's not true, who told you that?" he then never answered follow up questions...Have you asked him why he won't reveal what the film actually is? Its a genuine question. I haven't followed this discussion in a long time, so I don't know if anyone has asked or not.
