Jeff Ascough under NDA for new Rangefinder

"HCB/Tri-X mode", huh? If it wasn't clear already that this is a joke, it should be now. An April Fool's prank praecox, so to say.

Absolutely.

Not a particularly well-done one. As in, not particulalry amusing, but it does illustrate that either
a: there's a huge demand for a digital rangefinder (or)
b: the tiny group of people who want a digital rangefinder waste a huge amount of time on-line.

Of the two, scenario b is probably more likely.

Paul, if the reasons are going digital, shooting for money, at what a boss says, and the way a boss says. just like me and other pros do, your best bet are DSLRs... Ask others about what 99,99% of us are using for that, if you don't want my opinion...

Juan

Why on earth would you assume that what works for you would work for me?

I know dozens, perhaps hundreds of pros who use DSLRs. I would still guess that there's perhaps 25% of them who want an equivalent to the Leica, Contax G2, Mamiya rangefinder, Contax T2 or other compact camera (not, in most cases, rangefinder) that they used to, or in some cases, still, use.

Ugh.. ya know.. I hope Jeff isn't putting us on with this - not because I don't think it's possible, I just don't think it would "good" for his reputation. Maybe it's just me.... I mean, if *I* pulled a prank, well, no big deal; I'm not a full time working pro who is an ambassador for Canon and/or may be respected by a lot of other full time pro photographers.

You do this; and then say <nelson_muntz>"HA HA!"</nelson_muntz> and after the initial "ya, you got me" there's a little less respect for someone like that.

Just my opinion mind you.

Cheers,
Dave

Yes it's looking like it is a AF joke! Oh dear it ain't big it ain't clever and it's the lamest joke since the last lame joke! 😛
Don't think it will enhance his reputation. What was he thinking about!

Wow great April Fools joke. Oops, it's not April 1st yet, so I guess in this case it's just a fake rumor. Seriously though - if he did this 1 month from now, would any one humor him? Good job dude.

I have been assuming this couldn't be an April Fool's joke mainly because if it is, it would be so lame. There's not nearly enough audacity or cleverness in this.

Lame is the right word.

April Fools' is a great tradition. It's a long story, but on a magazine I worked at, we manufactured a rare, spoof old Gibson - which ended up being featured in a book, and inspiring another fake, sold for a six figure sum. You need to put some love and care into fooling people!

Sadly, in this case, it's the Fool who started the whole thing. Still, it probably got more people to check out his site, and for a wedding photographer i think his work is terrific.

I certainly hope this is NOT an April fool's joke. I've been saving all my pennies for a NX10 but I scraped that idea as soon as I heard about this new Wunderkamera.

If this is real then it has to be a Fuji, R-D2, Zeiss Icon, Panasonic, Sony, Leica, Contax, Mamiya or Nikon.

Maybe it's a Canon, although that's unlikely because they don't make rangefinders anymore.

😀

You can't buy advertising to get this kind of exposure. And he gets it for free.

How many went to his site that otherwise wouldn't even have known about it? A brilliant ploy????

Yes, maybe, but how many of us (interested in a Digital RF) will get married soon in UK?
R.

I retract my bet that it's going to be the successor to the R-D1.

My new bet is that this new rangefinder is the successor to the Ricoh GXR - it will be called the GXRF and come with a new 35mm f/1.2 full-frame module.

You read it here first, folks!

I think the April fool's joke is that it's meant to look like an April fool's joke! Think about it 😉
