Well if you don't like how Roger is always insulting DSLR users you could always beat him up. After all what good is all the extra upper body strength, from carrying around that heavy/bulky DSLR, good for if you're not going to use it for anything 🙂
 
I think he brought up many good points.

I often thought that all I need is my Minolta SRT 101 with the 50mm f2 Rokkor lens and some HP 5+ film.

No I don't! In fact, I've never insulted them at all, merely pointed out that they are bloated and overcomplicated, which is absolutely accurate as compared with a rangefinder or indeed the vast majority of film SLRs until the 1990s or so. Of course, there are those who get their knickers in a twist over this...

In any case, I pass up at least 90% of the opportunities that present themselves, when I could say how awful they are, and don't.

Seriously, DSLRs (and the last generation of film SLRs, which they closely resemble) are fine if you are willing to take the hit on size and weight.

Middle aged guy with a know-it-all attitude towards photography, isn't that pretty much the stereotype of typical amateur photographer these days?

Its easy to burst his bubble and make it clear that his out of touch and out dated but that's kind of cruel. Let him carry on in his little bubble.
 
I don't know who this guy is, but I like his outspoken approach. I think he's wrong about RF photography, but everybody's wrong about something! I did like the discussion in general, and I agree with some of it. That's about par for the course.

I think in some of his earlier videos he does point out that this is just his opinion and what has worked for him. I don't agree with everything he says, but I do agree with his comments about knowing your equipment and how to use it.

This is a bit of a rant, the guy can shoot good pictures but it looks like he's getting wound up the mass of new people walking around with cameras.

At one point he says 'to me it goes against the grain' so this entire video should have an 'IMHO' in the title.

As fo the part about rangefinders, well, again it's an opinion of somebody who thinks focus is the most important aspect.
 
Not a bad take on street photography, if ask me. Concentrate on the subject. Know your gear, Keep it simple. Practice your technique everyday. Avoid chimping...OO



As far as the dig on rangefinder's, he is entitled to his opinion.

I agree with some of what he says, but it is a rant. Rants are ok, though. He places an emphasis on speed and derides rf's as being out of focus. The thing is a scale focused rf is faster in operation every time than his F. You do take the chance of blowing the focus. HCB and Frank knew the trade offs of that, I think. Slow F, slow slow F.
