I watched the video and, while disagreeing with some of his opinions, I thought his workshops would be fun and interesting. He responded immediately to my email with an overview and price guide. It develops that the workshops are about four days at a cost of $400/day. Meals, lodging and transportation are all on you. It appears I will have to find my fun elsewhere — maybe the mean streets of Bakersfield — but at a quite reasonable cost.

lessee... how many rangefinder knights in shining chrome armour would it take to put one word in vilk's mouth (though granted, the discovery would not advance the discussion one inch)

Addendum in the interest of fairness:
The LA workshop is priced at $500 for four days. That seems reasonable.

He has a gallery there. Some pics are really great, and others not so great (but mostly technical issues, IMO, like scanning).
If you look at the gallery and watch a few of his videos on youtube you'll see that he can take great photos, and his work has, at the least, been used on a Richard Thompson album cover.

So much hate for Ken. Poor Ken.
Whoa whoa whoa. An amateur? This man has a photo of two men holding hands in TEXAS in the EIGHTIES! I think it goes without saying that anyone with that in their portfolio is a professional. Also, he has a Youtube channel. They don't just give those to anybody.
hah i assume you were being facetious, that photo is a girl and a guy holding hands. Her name's Verna. Second, that butt is a girls for sure...unless you are in the Castro, then you might see a dude in jeans like that with a trunk to fill em.

I haven't seen the video people are referring to but I have known of him for quite some time and seen a few of his videos. He's one of the reasons I got interested in photographing with film.
I think he's a great photographer and most of his opinions are similar to mine. One of the thing he says it doesn't matter what camera you use as long as you know how to use your camera. He is straight forward in his videos which I like and think he would be a good instructor.
To me it's more interesting how sensitive some people can be about a photographer's opinions on cameras or whatever it might be. I don't see why it would matter at all. It's an opinion, we all got them. I guess it's a YouTube thing.

I'd bet most of us don't care. We are just having fun.To me it's more interesting how sensitive some people can be about a photographer's opinions on cameras or whatever it might be. I don't see why it would matter at all. It's an opinion, we all got them. I guess it's a YouTube thing.
I'm still amused by the line about "what's good for photography." As if it's living and we owe it something.

He is a good photographer but he needs to work on his bedside manner and realize Nikon isn't the only camera made and respect the great photographers.
If one could take the good with the bad one could still learn from him.
