Does anyone have contact info for John Titterington? I could not find any online...
Or anyone know who to use for Minolta service? The AEs head on my newly recieved XM is faulty. The meter coupling lever/pin that is meant to be against spring tension has no tension at all.
May have to send this one back..

Thanks!

Huss, would you be willing to correct John Titterington's surname in the title of this thread to help overcome the "Titterton" trend?

Thanks.

Done!

And yes, he responded w/in the hour and was very nice about it.
A shame though.

John is great, he does a lot of my repair work. Turnaround time is typically a couple of days.
You could try Greg Stelz, his handle is "Mountaindawg" on Flikr. I email him through Flikr
He is busy with two jobs but might be willing to look at it. He's great as well.

Essex in New Jersey CLA'ed my AE-S Head but Hurricane Sandy put them out of business.
Somebody else out there must be willing to work on these? I'd like to find a good source for XK/XM.

He wrote back. Does not service XK/XM series cameras. Too bad.

I wonder if techs are still fixing XDs (XD-11)? I picked one up the other day for a song and took it straight to the local repair shop here for new light seals. He said everything checked out OK, but there are no replacement citcuit boards availible for these anymore...

If it is only light seals, then John Goodman is who you need to contact. He will send you the proper material kit together with instructions on how to do it yourself. You will hear only good words about him.

thanks for the info. My local shop is taking care of the light seals for me. Im just wondering if there is anywhere I can get XD parts, like circuit boards...

I took the XM to Steve's Camera Repair in Culver City, CA. 'He' was nice enough to open the AE-S head and re-attach a spring that had somehow become disconnected so the aperture coupling now works again. Great! But he would not do anything else outside replace foams. No CLA, no nutting'
Guess they don't want to touch a camera that he cannot get parts for, in case they by mistake tweak something.
Total cost to me from Steve's? $0. Very very nice of him/them.

Prolly would be easier and cheaper to find another good working inexpensive XD-11

Thanks, yeah probably easier than finding parts. Who knows maybe my new (to me) XD will keep working for the foreseeable future and I won't have to worry about replacement parts. Actually not sure how serious I am about keeping it, but for the price I couldn't pass it up...

So... an update.
The AE-s head is fine. I put it on my XK and it and the camera work perfectly. The AE head on the XK was put on the XM, and the XM still does not work properly (intermittent issues, seems fine, then shutter speeds do not match the exposure indicated, occasional lock ups).
So the problem is with the XM body (which looks mint, so much for that..).
Upside is the AE-S head is worth much more, and I have a working XK body.

Still, I'd love to get the XM body sorted, and this time I spoke to the tech at Steve's repair. He said that the issue is most probably the contacts w/in the camera have oxidized and he could open it up and go through them. But needs the ok from the shop owner to do that. Apparently this professional level camera did not have gold plated connectors, something that Minolta used on the CLE.
Here's hoping he gets the ok to open up and clean it up.

^^^ Good information above. I think my XE-7 also had an oxidation on the contact issue. John Titterington was able to clean that up for me. Glad to see that your AE-S Finder works, that is way more expensive than the XK Body, as you say. If Steve's Repair decides to work on your XK please let us know.

I was just looking around on Apug.org and somebody over there just got their Minolta XK overhauled by Mark Hama in Atlanta. Mark has CLAed several Yashica Mats for me in the past and was very quick about it.

My XK is in good working order but it good to know that there is still -somebody- who is willing to take these cameras on. I always thought it was just Essex and that was it. Which is unfortunate because Hurricane Sandy put them out of business.

Mark Hama messed up my Voigtlander Vitessa and Zeiss Ikon Contessa so I cannot recommend him. It seems that while he accepts pretty much any camera to work on, there are a select few that he is good with (Yashicamats).

I did find someone local to work on my XM (XK), I will report back once I see how that pans out. They are going to open it up, clean all the contacts and CLA it. My intermittent electrical issues suggests corrosion on the contacts.

Walter's accepts mail ins. CLA is $65.
