Johnny Depp's Kiev

Classic Contax/Kiev Newby finger position

Classic Contax/Kiev Newby finger position

Largely due to the longest RF base leg in the rangefinder world. I love my Kneb....1952 model

I have to confess to being a big fan of the man.

He's done some fantastic movies, especially earlier in his career. 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape' ... 'Benny And Joon' ... 'Edward Scissor Hands' are three that come to mind! :)

That is the new digital Kiev, he is using live view to focus.

Bob

Just what I was thinking -- if he's looking to use the screen on the back, he will wait a long time get it to work.

The character he played was so drunk on over proof rum for the entire movie. I think it is quite the accomplishment that the camera is facing the right way.:D

That's what I was thinking. But he does get the shot, the other, even more drunken guy develops it for him.

Maybe he is being discreet. Shh.. like shooting from the hip he is shooting from the chin incognito. Really the way he is handling it no one would suspect he is shooting!

That is an odd prop to use in a 50/60s era movie...how accessible would Knebs be in PR at that time?

The good doctor, however, should have known his way around one or two cameras at that point in his career at least- even a Contax perhaps.
