Judgement Day May 21st 2011

I wonder if that's why the Hub Channel aired the final episodes of the Men in Black animated series.

Part I was on today, "The Endgame Syndrome (1)".

And MONDAY, the exciting conclusion "The Endgame Syndrome (2)". "With MIB having success in coordinating resistance against the invasion, the Ixions plan to unleash a weapon that will kill everyone on Earth. Jay and Kay will fight Alpha and Vangus in the final battle for humanity. "

tune in. Part 1 was great.

There must be some Leica shops nearby ready for post-apocalyptic looting.

Harold Camping, are you still there? Not many hours left are there?

My son reports from China, where 6:00pm local time has come and gone already on May 21, 2011, that the earth did not open up, bodies did not emerge zombie-like from their graves to stalk the streets for five months (where did they get that number???), Christians did not float up with their new diaphanous wings and glowing halos to the heavens, the lamb did not open the seventh seal, etc. Well, about the Christian thing, it's China, so if anyone did float away, there weren't many of them. Happy ravishing, rapturous apocalypse to everyone. See you at 6:01pm ET, UTC or whatever zone (The Twilight Zone?) you might be in....

forgive the shamless blog plug, but if the end is near...

Well I wanted to spend my last dime and take my last breath at the same time, so I spent all my money for nothing. Oh well?

Note my use in the post you quote of the phrase 'seems to be'. I'd need to read more closely, as you apparently have, and I have no desire to contradict your almost certainly superior scriptural knowledge. Perhaps you would be kind enough to give me chapter and verse? 'Rapture' is not a part of any of the major Christian sects with which I am familiar, but again, this may be a deficiency on my part.

The dispute about faith and works -- whether one earns grace, or is granted it -- is ancient and not, I suspect, entirely fruitful. It is rather like the distinction some Buddhists make between achieving enlightenment, and recognizing that one is already enlightened.

We are of one mind that on any normal reading of the Bible Mr. Camping can neither know the day of the Rapture, if there is to be one, nor presume to know it, which is the basic premise of this thread. It is in the phrase "if there is to be one" that we may disagree, but not, I fear, fruitfully.

We are also of one mind that anyone may believe what he wishes, but you must surely accept that this is a question of belief, not proof, and that there is no logical or inherent reason why a God or gods need give us permission to believe or not.

Cheers,

R.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, had to get my affairs in order don't you know. :D :D :D

Humor aside, I have no way of knowing what Christian "sects" you are familiar with, but most denominations I am familiar with, do believe in the rapture. There is disagreement on pre or post or with some, mid tribulation, but most agree with a rapture, the rapture being the coming of Christ in the air to gather his church, that is those saved by grace.

You have an interesting turn of phrase, "... earns grace ..." That seems a contradiction in terms. But I understand you question on whether a Christian can expect to be able to be saved by grace; a free gift from God, or whether one can only expect salvation due to a sufficient record of good works. In fact, I understand some teach one cannot even know ahead of time if one will be saved or not. That would be scary to me.

You asked for verses. First you need to know I am not a Koine Greek scholar, nor even a little bit fluent. I can read the alphabet, and look up words. I have two Greek Interlinear translations. I put most credence in George Ricker Berry's Interlinear Greek-English New Testament, which has a King James Version translation in the side margins. I also have Word Study Greek-English New Testament by Paul R. McReynolds, which has the NRSV translation in the side margins. I don't use it for doctrine as I don't believe it is a faithful translation. Others are of course free to make their own choices. That said, you might want to look in your King James Bible at the following:

Matthew 11:12
Matthew 12:29
Matthew 13:19
John 6:15
John 10:12
John 10:28
John 10:29
Acts 8:39
Acts 23:10
2d Corinthians 12:2 - This and the verse below show salvation cannot be lost.
2d Corinthians 12:4
1st Thessalonians 4:15-17 - this describes the rapture, using the words "...caught up..."
James 1:23
Revelations 12:5

Now, in the interlinear translations, you will find various conjugations of harpadzo, which is variously translated as snatch, pluck, plunder, take by force, or catch up, as the translators felt was proper English usage for the connotation of the Greek.

Hope this helps you sir.

And I still don't believe Mr. Camping. Were the rapture to come today, it could not be because he knew the date or time, or my Bible is wrong, and I don't believe it is.

Again, others are free to have their own beliefs, and agree or disagree.

Thanks very much. I shall sit down with my King James version (perhaps tomorrow, appropriately enough) and go through the references.

Cheers,

R.

7pm eastern time

We're still alive! We're still alive!

I guess there are some disappointed folks out there.
Hope that it brings them to their senses.

So is there a follow-up to this? What's the preacher saying now?

No photography allowed though, so I can't post a picture of God, she'd get very annoyed.

The Ixion battle fleet was turned back, J and K took the LTD into space and detonated a missile just before it destrroyed the Earth.

It was a close one.
