Sounds ok with me.
I probably can't make the 31st. I have a 25 year reunion to go to on the 30th.

John,
Funny how a month can get booked so fast. What does it all mean? Lately I think there has been a lot of "Divine Intervention" in my life, and this is coming from a guy who celebrates no religion. Anyways my spirit somehow I feel is being guided in a mysterious way. Meanwhile the rest of the world seems to be deteriorating in a rampant way.
This Public Storage exhibition possibility is looking good for me. Really suits my work. "No Longer Empty" does these pop up exhibitions in empty spaces.
The most recent update is the storage visit will happen in August instead of July and the exhibition will happen in October instead of September.
All entrants will be on a blog, so this is one level of exposure; then 20 artists will have their storage unit visited and will be video interviewed; then culled down then is 10 artists who will be exhibited in Manhattan Mini Storage in SoHo.
My idea is to be like the real estate market: make large prints thinking that some rich guy will buy them. The 3 landscape images are the Domino Sugar Refinery: Williamsburg for an exterior landscape shot; Columbus Circle: Interior/Exterior for a remarkable indoor/outdoor shot; and an Eastern State Penitentiary for an indoor shot of "perserved ruins."
For street shots I submitted the shot of Luis Mendez, Jamal Shabotz, and Anthony on Broadway near the now closed Leica Gallery, and the shot of Sal who has lived on East 106th Street for over 40 years and raised 6 kids while working the docks. I also call the shot of Sal "Landscape-Face" because he was a boxer and his face has so much character.
Anyways I'm pretty good at publicly masturbating and putting myself out there. I'm hoping to get shown, and with an opportunity like this anything can happen.
I think I will be busy printing cell shots from ESP that can be a complete body of work by itself. I also happen to have mucho 17 inch wide rolls of John Cone Type 5 that offer a satin finish that might look very compelling with the glow-We diffused light that appears to be so dreamy.
I totally can see how my work fits into the manifesto of the curators. I'm hoping that they see the sense of history I'm presenting of a changing New York. Know that they also consider proposals and projects, and I mentioned that I have hundreds of thousands of negatives...

Life is weird. Late last night got a phone call from Vinney, a friend from high school. Anyways this was on a cell phone that is under Maggie's name, so I inquired how Vinney got my number after all these decades. It seems that technology that was developed by the NSA is available to consumers for no money. Vinney was as surprised as I was that this cheap app worked so well.
Anyways there is an upcoming 40 year High School Reunion that should be rather strange. LOL. Basically I have not changed very much since 1976, except for an almost white chin beard and a little grey hair otherwise.
Also I thought my graduating class was around 1,000, but Vinney told me it was only 641. Could it be that 359 of my peers didn't graduate or got left back. Remember this was the mid 70's, and many did not think we had much of a future.
So I find out Vinney's brother in now a Supreme Court Judge, and this is about as funny as John Belushie becoming a U.S. Senitor in the film "Animal House."
Anyways life is weird, especially in the Long Island Suburbs.

Cal I could relate to that, last year I went to a reunion for my school and because of
school funding is no more so they decided to put a monument on the campus where
I went to school to honor it, it was a nice turn out but my year of graduating I was the
only one there, I guess like you said the mid seventies was a wild time, because of
the drinking and drugs, I guess my group didn't care. I did have a good time with
the group that was there mostly older and a few younger but it was good, and reminds
us all that time is going by fast.

I graduated college a week ago. Goddamn was it fast 4 years, it gets faster the older and more used you get.
I thought I'd diverge quite a lot, but I can expect to keep rather warm contact with a few good peers. A few I might not ever see.
Cal, as you say, it is crazy how months can get booked up. I'm working part time afternoons and weekends of summer I always feel they are scant, getting used for a few ideas or small trips.
I am now in an old family house up the mountains, want to think when to come back but July has just a couple weekends left!
That cellphone printing you say is interesting. It's incredible how much snaps (many quite good in my case) I take with the phone. And it was a tool I did not have 3 years ago!
Infact perhaps I might get to use 35mm again for some aesthetical aspect and phone for the fast digitalia.
Time is damned fast. Feels like yesterday much stuff I did months ago.
Live simple and well does work wonderd though.

I was looking at the list of people signed up and also the deceased no longer with us. My friend Vinny corrected me, I had though I was part of a graduating class of about 1,000, but in fact it was only 641.
Out of the 641 I was surprised that 25 are already dead.
Anyways the building which dates back to 1925 is an Art Deco building.
What will be very weird is that other than some grey hair is that I have not really aged. I'm still a skinny bitch. LOL.
Back in high school I was voted, "Most likely to have my head explode," because I was a dangerous hot-head. Back then I had an evil temper and would explode like a hand grenade. I'm very calm now that I'm old.
Another thing is that in my high school we had fraternities and sororities. I was the first Asian and perhaps the first non white guy member of Alpha Omega Theta. There were some level of gang violence with other frats and other towns.

Cal, could you bring your prints from the ESP shoot? Thanks, Jean-Marc
Looks like I'll make it after all. I decided to bail on the reunion.

Jean-Marc,
I will bring the ESP prints.
I will be also bringing some new prints I made night shooting with my Monochrom using the 35/1.8 Nikkor in LTM. I really love the rendering of this lens for night shooting. It has the most pleasant retro look and this soft glow when shot wide open. I have to make some prints of the same images but with a bit of added contrast. I think this will dial in the look.
Toronto has some beautiful light. Dusk is at 9:00 PM and it seems like the golden hour is really 3 hours in Toronto. It also seems that the light reflected off Lake Ontario brightens the shadows. The shadows had this amazing diffused brightness.
It seems I made it to the next round, and I have been selected for a storage visit. They were culling down to 20, but it seems the real number is 18 for storage visits and video interview. From the 18 about 10 will be selected for exhibition in the Manhattan Mini Storage in SoHo.
"Fresh Out of Storage" is sponsored by a non profit that does these pop-up exhibitions in vacant spaces all around the city.

Jean-Marc,
As usual I'll be there early to reserve a table. Too bad you missed Joe's masterful prints from ESP.

I laid down 7 shades of black on 5 prints last night, and tonight I will see if I added too much or too little contrast (via LR5 tone curve) when I perform the gloss overcoat.
I had stockpiled lots of Jon Cone Type 5 paper, but soon discovered that I like Canson papers for the gloss finish.
For night shots it seems the satin finish of the Jon Cone Type 5 is ideal. Also the split tone is served well on night shots with the warmth in the shadows.
Anyways, I had to start a fresh 50 foot roll last night.

This Sunday at Lorelie's.
I'll be there before 1:00 PM to reserve a table.
I'll also have some prints to show. Jean Marc wants to see the prints from Eastern State Penitentiary, and I have some new work which is night shooting with the 35/1.8 Nikkor on my Monochrom using 800 ISO.

I'll have some photos from our day in Philly in a 7" book... that is if you size snobs can handle looking at small prints.

John,
If they are good shots then they are giant killers. LOL.
Anyways I'm very impressed by the night shots. They hold up well at 13x19.5 on 17x23.5 paper.
All I need is 800 ISO.
