Jupiter 11, any views?

Hi anyone had experiences with the Jupiter 11 (LTM)?

I have read some glowing reviews of this lens and also some that were not so good.

I just got a film developed from my Zorki 4 and Industar 26, very impressed with that. Seems to me that all the FSU lenses are excellent, I havent has a bad one yet.

I've never used one in LTM, but have one for my Contax II. The optics are the same.

Wide-Open on the Contax II. This lens is from 1960.

The Jupiter-9 often requires shimming, and even the secondary shim to be adjusted for element spacing.

Hi Brian, is that picture taken with a J11 or J9? Do you rate the J11?

Focusing with a 135mm - on a rangefinder is always critical, so you'll need a well-adjusted example!

I am a big fan of the J11. It's a little slow at f/4, but other than that it's wonderful. It's worth noting that the Kiev version can focus a meter closer than the LTM version.

My J-11 in Kiev mount is excellent.

135 mm lens are hard to use in rangefinders (especially if you come from SLR cameras). As said above your RF has to be well adjusted, your aux viewfinder must be well centered, and you have to remember to correct for parallax at short distances.

I find that the turret viewfinder works best for 135 mm.

i have one but it doesn't see that much use. It's a good performer, though not particularly outstanding. A little slow at f/4 but it's light and not too big and not expensive to acquire.

About the best FSU lens I've ever used, in both versions (Zorkii and Kiev).

I am using J11 LTM on M3, pretty fine lens straight from F/4, though MF of 2.5 meters kills sometimes. Lenshood is needed also. And as usual J11 does not really like contra-light.

Just saw this!

The picture shown is with the J-11, wide-open.

On a J-9, expect it to require adjustment. It is not as sharp or contrasty as a Nikkor 8.5cm F2.

Results with the 1975 Black J-9, stopped down a little, on the COntax II.

Wide-Open, after shimming it and adding ~0.5mm to the main shim.

I have a 1950's LTM J-9 coming in, and I will report back.
