I have a Jupiter 11 (Zorki type) with a 42mm ring stuck in place on the rear, unless it is a modified version for a Zorki or Fed that was fitted with a 42mm thread, which i think is highly unlikely. Has anyone any suggestions for removing this ring, which would be useful to convert a lens for a Zenit 3M to Zenit B or E. In desperation I suppose one could carefully cut through the ring with a saw, but I don't think I would want to risk that.

Problem solved. A drop of oil between the ring and the mount threads. Unscrewed really easily after a couple of days. Now to take the lens for a test run and try a 39mm thread Jupitter 9 on a Zenit E or Praktica,

If it's supposed to move and doesn't: WD-40.

If it's not supposed to move and does: duct tape.

WD40 is a water dispersant, Dez, not a release oil (the clue is the WD). There are far better things for making things move that have seized - diesel fuel, Plus-Gas (or its equivalent where you are) etc. WD40 and cameras do not go together. I'm not sure where the common myths about WD40 come from, it's meant for driving out water from (say) car HT systems and allowing the engine to start.

And if neither of those succeed, try a bigger hammer. ;)

Thanks folks for the kind advice. I am now going to try and loosen up the grub screws in the speed dial of a Zorki C ( or S really), which is wrongly set so that B is where it shouldn't be, and not always in the same place. The problem could be in the central post, if that's the right word, I suppose.I must read my Maizenberg.
