This is the situation, im on holiday in the netherlands. I bought that jupiter lens, I trusted the shop owner. But now, looking at the prices on ebay I think I was an easy target, "a dumb turist who wont return".
I should probably go back there and clam some money back right?

Seems a bit too high. Check completed listings in the well-known site. I am very fond of the J-12 but not at those prices.

I should just put it down to experience. He offered it at that price , you accepted and paid his price. Contract signed and sealed, you have no claim on him.

Hi, too high priced...should go for 60-80 usd on ebay plus shipping...hope you can do something about it...you should be able to return and funded back..as any other shop does...
Don´t talk about the money...just tell the owner, the lens didn´t work out on your camera...culdn´t focus or whatever...

Well, J-12 doesn't focus properly on Leicas (if you look really closely), so...

According to this site http://www.amsterdam-mamas.nl/featured/consumer-rights-in-the-netherlands you have seven or eight days to take the product back. I bought a Jupiter 8 once, had a big bubble in the front element. That was when it was new in 76. I wanted the lens so they traded me out one without the bubble. Maybe yours has a less than obvious bubble which you just found

Claim, yeah that was a bit strong. I will go to him and ask him if his store has any policy in such matters.

It may be possible to pay a fee for restocking the item (taking it back to the shop in other words) if it is unused and complete with all packing etc. in perfect condition -- but this depends on the terms and conditions printed on the receipt and is probably unlikely.
If the J-12 really is "new-old-stock" then you may be able to sell it to a collector and buy a modern lens like the VC 35mm 2,5 (which I can highly recommend). How good the J-12 is depends on it's condition and a little bit on luck, but they can be very useable though not modern looking (contrast and micro-contrast mostly).

Some resellers offer the possibility to cancel the purchase agreement under certain conditions, if the product is unused and undamaged. This is stated in the terms and conditions (algemene voorwaarden). For example: To exchange a product with refund within 7 days, one can pay a cancelation fee or get a voucher. Enjoy the J-12. It is a very good lens. Next time pay more attention for the regular prices.

Yes I'm pretty sure the prices are the same here in London. I'd never buy anything in local stores anyway, it is almost all the time at least twice the ebay price... I cannot even understand how these places are still open.
Legally, as it was said, there is not much you can do, but you can always try to explain him (like saying it's not working as you expected) and maybe he'd agree, but if you're not from the netherlands I don't see the point of going back there just for that, simply enjoy the lens.

Also note that 'like new' FSU lenses also sell for a bug premium. I sold a like new, in box J3 for $400 a few months ago - more than 50% higher than usual.

even really new FSU lenses (out of the factory) don't look "like new" IMO 😉

90% of the prices in any antique store, camera shop, collectible sales are over priced. That's why it's called "high retail." Everything in these stores will be about double what you should pay.
If you don't know the value of something, you should not be buying used items. (Or new items - would you go buy an Ipad not knowing their usual cost?) Unless you really don't care about prices, and just like occasionally buying in stores. These are used items. Once you buy it, and don't know what it's worth, it's too late to research and decide you messed up. The time for that was before you buy. If you came back to my store and said, "I researched my purchase, and decided I could have bought it cheaper on ebay, so I want my money back" I'd laugh you out the door. But I don't operate a store.
