The J-12 is a fine lens. I received mine a fortnight ago from the 'bay, only to find that the back surface of the front lens had that ever appealing problem of fungus. Mind you, it looks "nice", little trees and branches spreading from the rim to the center... sigh!
There is an easy way to solve the problem (if the fungus hasn't grown into the lens surface which fortunately had not happened in my case).
Go off to the local tool store and buy a 24 mm flat chisel.
Unscrew the inner ring that holds the front element in place with this tool.
Take out front element. Unscrew the rear part of the front element along the dotted rim. The back lens of the front element comes off easily.
Now, take a break and sniff the oil-and-metal smell. Hmmmmm!
Clean back of front lens by use of 5% amphoteric tenside optic cleaner (to be purchased at the local optician's, normally used for coated spectales) and softly rub it with ultra micro fibre cloth (optician's store as well). - Fungus was gone.
This gives you the chance of also cleaning the aperture blades and the flat front of the back element.
Screw the rest back in place. Job done.
- Eh, what was the question?
I use a Russian KMZ turret finder. I love the horizontal and vertical lines that make an easy lineup with the horizon for wide angle.
