Canon LTM Jupiter 35 2.8 on canons

some J-12's do fit the 7 and P cameras.
you will have to see if your J- 12s rear element hits the light baffles of these cameras or not.
 
Ian, I'd be careful. The J12 did change in design over the years, but I've got a fairly early one (1959) that doesn't have the added metal ring around the rear element and it still can't be mounted on my Canon 7. Some time ago I stumbled over a web page in Japanese -- I've since lost the link -- in which someone explained how he bent the Canon 7's light baffles with his fingers until the Jupiter would fit, but it's something I haven't wanted to do to mine.

I love the J-12 and am not happy that the one I had would not fit my Canon P. Some of the later versions of the J-12 may fit but I believe it is still a "lens by lens" issue--in other words, check your lens(if you've got one) on your camera and see if it fits. As one gently screws in the lens, it will be very apparent if the lens is mounting correctly or not.
If you are considering buying a J-12, I think looking for a later version (the first two numbers of the lens serial # are the year of manufacture) makes sense.

When you are first trying the lens on a body, set it to close focus. The lens group will be farthest forward at close focus. Look throught the open back of the camera with the shutter open at the "B" setting. Once the lens is screwed in fully, slowly turn the focus ring towrds infinity. Doing so will show you whether the protruding rear lens tries to occupy the same space as any of the light baffles of the camera.

Thanks everyone it seems the newer version lens may fit and if it does not i can always use it on my bessa or i may hold out for a canon 35mm.oh and Airds your quite right i was searching for jupiter 35mm canon so thanks for the positive info ps your lucky living in such a photogenic part of the uk i visit every summer while holidaying in the highlands.

Jupiter 12 mounting question

I know this subject has been discussed on earlier threads but the only one that I could find was from March discussing mounting this lens on a Canon RF. I am considering purchasing a J12 to use with my Fed 2d. One is up on the auction site built in 1961. Various reports suggest purchasing a late model example to avoid mounting problems. Is 1961 considered early or late model? Should I be concerned or does the J12 usually mount well with Fed 2's? Again, is it just lens to lens variability? Thanks in advance.

You shouldn't have any trouble with the FED and J12 combination. FSU(Former Soviet Union) lens and FSU camera work well together. You will probably want an auxiliary viewfinder, though.

I have a 82 version which does not work. My understanding is older versions from late 50's-early 60 may work.

I am new to FSU cameras and have been enjoying shooting a very clean Fed 2 with nice J8. I just needed some guidance for the J12. Thanks for the advice.

I thought we all seemed to have agreed on later versions fitting on Canon bodies - see this thread - anything specific about your lens I wonder? My '76 version fits on my VI-L & 7 fine.
 
I had chrome version from the 50's or 60's which didn't fit, when focusing at close distance you could feel unpleasant glass on metal friction (I didn't want to bend light baffles) the rear elements circumference was slightly bigger on older version (1 or 2 mm) compared to later black version I got, it was made in mid eighties, I could mount and focus the lens on my canon P, but soon I discovered that paint on the rim of rear element wears off, when I focus. If you don't mind having light baffles "polished" every time you focus or mount the lens you should go for later black version. I put my J12 at ease since I got bargain canon 35/2

I've tried 2 late model 35's on my Canon 7 and both made contact. I now have a 58 version which barely clears. As others have said it probably varies from one example to the next.
 
If you are going to try please try with the back door open and the camera on B with the shutter locked open, removing paint from the baffles wont do the flare any good.

My late J12 does not clear.
