So... I managed to get my hands on an LTM Jupiter-8 lens with some visible oil between the lens element groups, and with a pretty stiff focusing ring, for next to nothing a few weeks ago, and I somehow managed to turn this:

My Summitar is a better-built lens, no doubt, but I'll have to admit that the Jupiter's optics are in quite a bit better shape at this point.

That is an early one, they are quite good.

I notice you did not take the optics module out of the focus mount- it should unscrew. Shims are underneath. Check the focus up close and wide open, sometimes (not always) adjustments are required.

I actually couldn't get the lens block to unscrew, no matter how hard I tried, so I gave up and took the front and rear optics out, and cleaned it that way, in addition to stripping the helicoid grease and relubing.

Close focus seems ok (see attachment). I'm really liking this lens, esp. how the aluminium makes the camera + lens combo appreciably lighter overall.

I've had a couple J-8's that the optics module would not come out- they were cemented in. I suspect someone adjusted the lens in the past, cemented it in rather than using the proper shim.

Congrats...but i must Confess
I'm really writing because her 'Red' skin is Truly Fab
Love the 'Look' of your IIIc

@Brian: yes, that might make sense. I can't possibly be that weak ;)

@Helen: thank you so very much! When I first got the camera the vulcanite was crumbling off at an alarming rate, so I figured why not go for some colour? Here it is with the more "politically correct" Summitar lens and in better, more natural light :
