How does the Jupiter-8 work with R-D1? Do I need some adapter to get the M-39 mount to work with Epson's M-mount? I could get one for real cheap, thanks again!

The Jupiter-8 should work very well with the RD-1. You will need an adapter. They should be available at most of the larger online photo stores; I'm not sure what they cost.

Great lens. I paid $30 for one, and got another one for free! They can really vary sample to sample and some say do not buy from someone in the west as that means they got a bad one and are looking to unload it.

Good lens but be very wary of the cheap adapters as they can cause problems including focus errors. I would reccommend either the Leica ones or CV. I haven't used them but many say the Marumi are OK as well.

That's not a general fact. I bought most of my FSU gears from sellers in the west, only one from South Siberia. *All* of them works as they're described.
Sometimes people just got bored with FSU or moved on to something else, or have extra stuff. I'm not saying that there are *no* jerks who lie or feign ignorance to unload their stuff, but in my experience, it's not most of the cases.

I think I have passed over 20 or so FSU lens to other members of the forum. Hopefully, most were happy with them. At least not many have complained.

Most of the Jupiter-8s which I've seen on the internet naturally have cyrillic letters. But the one I could easily get has written Jupiter on it in Latin/Roman letters. Is this a sign of something? Does it indicate that it was made during certain years? If does it affect the quality?
Thanks!
Thanks!

During the period they were made, the "export" version had western lettering. With more recent events and the advent of the internet, the "home grown" versions are finding their way west a lot easier.

I have a Jupiter-8 that I got for free, from a stranger at that. Well, I paid $5 or something to have it sent from England. I don't use it much, but when I have it seems like a good lens.

Be careful of the black J-3 for sale at Fedka, though. I used to own that lens, Yuri did 2 CLA's on it (note the paint loss on the screws) to fix the backfocusing, and he was not able to fix it. He bought it from me for $60.
Edit: Ok looking back on my old post about this lens, mine was an '83, and this one is an '86...sooo....disregard what I said above, it ain't mine...sorry!

actually...

I like to buy FSU lenses from westerners as they are very often in a nearly not used condition often still have the original box and the rearcaps (highly appreciated with J 12's. Most of the FSU lenses I see in Bulgaria and other eastern places were simply overused....no shame or blame in that.
Seems that for western users who bought them athe time the fascination was a rather short one....good for us

I swindled myself. :bang: I had 3 brand new black ones that focussed perfectly complete with boxes and paperwork. The grease was a bit sticky from storage but a re-lube cured that. I think I sold all of them the RFF members for less than $100.
