I have a Jupiter-8m that says it is a 53mm/2 lens. I thought they were all 50mms. the Helios 103 is a 53mm, but is f/1.8. I don't get it. Any help would be appreciated.
most "50mm" lenses are not exactly 50mm, some are 51.2 mm , some are 53.1 etc. these FSU normal lenses are just being a little more honest in their markings, concerning the focal lenght of the lens.
Don't worry about it. Your Jupiter probably has a focal length of 52.3mm just like the Zeiss Sonnar it was copied from. Zeiss labelled all them "50mm" too, and nobody worried about that either.
No reasons to worry. I have a Jupiter-8M which marked 2/53 (for Kiev 4, contax mount). It's made in 1979 (first two digit of mfg serial number).
KMZ (Zenit) claims the focal lenght is 52.49mm, here is link (if you can read russian) http://www.zenit.istra.ru/archive/lenses/jupiter-8.html
