Hello again,

Well I decided to go through with the purchase of the J-12 (complete with view finder) hopefully it'll arrive safely. I'll be sure to provide feedback under the origional thread. Have another question though....

The Jupiter 9 lens seems to be quite a hard one to get a hold of, at least in excellent condition. There are a few kicking about on ebay, but I'm a bit weary of paying more than $80 US for one (just got out-bidded) from ebay.

Most people on here seem to recommend Fedka, has anyone had any experiance with the other web-page russian camera stores? I just recently found Soviet Camera - has anyone used them before? Or can anyone recommend any other places good for picking up LTM lenses?

Thanks again
Michael

... and is it true that he black Juipter lenses (post 1960?) are better suited to the later model FED camera's. eg the FED 5, 5B? The J-12 I have in the mail is a black lens, should I look around for a black J-9?

I bought a Zorki 2 from Soviet Camera (Vikentiy Trofimov) a couple of years ago. He has a repair person who clas most of his cameras and I assume they probably know how to handle lenses, too. Good seller.

Yes, I have dealt with Vikentiy at sovietcamera.com.ua and recommend him. My Zorki-1 w/Industar-22, and FED-2 w/Industar-26 both came from him.

thanks for the feedback, I may just wait until either Fedka or SovietCamera have a good lens available, seeing as they each have a really good reputation for service within this forum.

Kim - I saw the item you linked to on ebay. I was thinking about that one, exept there is only the one image of the lens, so there is no way of seeing what it looks like on the glass.
Also saw this one, and it looks like there is a big scratch on the front, although it's blured out;

what do you think?

Hi,
I will let you know in a couple of weeks, I ordered one of him a week ago! I ordered from soikaf because the lens looked to be in better condition cosmetically for only about $5 more. As to the pictures, it is sometimes very difficult to photo glass and difficult to tell what is reflection and what are marks. Apart from which, he has focused on the diaphraghm rather than the front element. I prefer the words and go through Paypal. I also have a good look through the feedback. Soikaf does seem to have several so if there is a problem, he could probably replace it and his feedback comments not just score would seem to show that he is OK.

It is always going to be a little bit of a lottery but that is part of life. Soviet Camera and Fedka seem to charge about 60% more. With this difference I can afford the odd dud and still be better off.
