I just took my brand new in the plastic case with passport 30 year old Jupiter 9 out of the closet. I only used it once, and to say it was a little "soft" was an understatement. Well, checking the collimation I found the lens to be off by about 20 feet at 30 feet. I removed about 1/8" of shim, lapped one down a few thou, and now it's spot on. 8x loupe on the ground glass shows everything sharp as a tack. I know now why the lens looks so new for being so old. At least it's an easy DIY project. Stu

Brian,
Adjusting the collimation on an LTM J9 is relatively easy. The whole lens unit just unscrews from the front as per the photo I put on your J3 thread. However, re-lubing the helix unit is a slightly different story though not difficult if you put it back together in the right order and check everything as you go.
