lol ... well i've been disassembling it last night, since it wasn't coupling at all and that it is normally supposed to couple with the RF ( according to http://jay.fedka.com/index_files/Page336.htm )
Since mine wasn't coupling at all (and was apparently badly re-assembled) I decided to give it a go... well if any of our russian / ukrainian / bielorussian friends has a good clue, it'll be more than welcome!

The LTM version is more complicated and this leads to the assembly errors. Also I think it's quite sensitive to the flange distance issue - use it on a FSU LTM body, no problem but use it on a Bessa and you are much more likely to have problems.
Get a good one, though, and it's a very sweet lens.

I use a Kiev. No focusing problems with my 50 & 35mm lenses. So I think the flange distance is OK.

I too have a J-9 and I believe that it is mis-calibrated. It has obviously been dis-assembled at some point, and the focus is really smooth. It was inexpensive, and the glass is really nice.
Would anyone know, offhand, if Oleg is able to re-calibrate a J-9? I would rather spend the $$$ and send it off to him for a cleaning and adjustment than I would spend more money on another J-9 and potentially go through the same story again.
Thanks,
Kent

I wouldn't mind has well having mine serviced by a competent person, instead of wasting my time.

Hi,
I have just done a CLA on a J9 that I just received. The double helix seems very complicated and most notes talk about several attempts getting it back together. I have to admit that my first go was a little like this and then I worked it out. Providing you put it back in the right order, it is actually quite easy to find the right helix's to make it all work correctly. If you want to have a go, I should be able to talk you through it. However, if you have never done a CLA on a lens it is not the easiest to work on.
Regards
Kim

Hey Kim,
I actually have CLA'd a couple of Minolta SLR lenses before. The problem with this J-9 is that at some point it was CLA'd and probably improperly put together again. I previously found a site which tells one how to pull apart a J-9, which was really great, but the problem here is that the lens is already out of whack.
If you can guide me along a sequence to re-calibrate a mis-calibrated lens then yes, I would really appreciate the help!

Hello Kent, I took a look at that URL and that info is for a Kiev 4 lens which is not the same beast as an LTH as far as focusing. I have just had one of these (LTM) silver versions apart for a relube and there are three focusing helix assemblys with multiple entry points and two possible places on each for the guide pins (3ea.) so reassembly can be a nightmare. I am pretty good with lenses and this one took about 3 hours to reassemble and test since whoever assembled the thing at the factory had witness marks and scribe lines everywhere on the inside and mine got lost in the maze. The only thing that would remove that sticky dryed up wax that used to be grease was gasoline but the lens works great now and focuses correctly at both ends. :bang: Regards Dave

Hi Dave,
Well, I'm a bit disappointed by your discovery
Mine is out a bit and I really need to adjust it.
