just because I can't help looking on ebay...

It looks perfect. Wow, that camera must have been sitting on a shelf somewhere. It'll probably need a CLA just to get the shutter speeds running correctly.

ooooohhh...aaaaagh....<droool>....me likey very much
The "e" in eBay stands for EVIL.
I am SO not in the market either, BUT...
I can't remember seeing such a clean M2 in the last decade!

What was there to open it up over- looks like it had one or two rolls through it max. Wow. Gotta love a time capsule eh?

Not that high for an 'as new' M2, but over my head.

fortunately, my wallet is saying no. 🙄

I just can't help looking on ebay either, and I must say that you shouldn't tempt poor folks like me with gorgeous ZI. black bodies 🙂
( and I mean YOUR auction , not this one )

Well, I find it a little sad that such a fine instrument has not be used in the way it was designed and manufactured to with such care and skill. What's the point in having a camera that doesn't take photo's? It's a sterile object destined to be hidden from sight and touch, such a shame. If I was rich enough and eccentric enough I'd buy it and use it.

Preserved Leicas like that m2 are works of art as well as ways to make art (potentially). I see no shame or sadness in not 'using' it. It's part of human history, some things really are too good to use. There are plenty of cameras that will hold a lens in place and yield better results without loosing value just from the oily touch of human hands.

This, I'll use:

If I had that M2, I'd be afraid to use it, which would be a shame. In fact it'd be wrong, so I'd actually be happier if someone else had put a few dinks and scratches on it first. Silly, isn't it? But I had a Canonet QL17 GIII in similarly good shape; couldn't even risk that. Had to sell it. I can't explain it, I know it's odd, but my battered XA gets lots of use, which is what it was meant for. When it finally dies, at least it won't have had a wasted life.

I'd use it. Just like a musical instrument, you gotta use it. If it just sits there what's the point of having it? I am certainly glad that whoever had my M5 didn't use it up, but I certainly intend to use it nearly every day. And my M7's are having just as busy a life, as they were meant to. Sure, I pamper my tools, keep them in the cases, brush off the dust after a day out- you should be careful and take care of 'em, and give them their well deserved CLA every 10 years, but to just have something sit in a climate controlled glass case?? Nah.
