M2 fan.
Great camera, not too large and heavy, I have one since many years and just a few week ago this "sister" joined the family!

PS: yes, the shutter sound compared to many other cameras is like a gun shot

I find that a plus vs the FM3A. As the cameras age it will become a possible source of a light leak. With the FM2 you just need to replace the foam seals in the door channels. With the FM3A, when the time comes, you will need to also replace that window seal. Getting a new one may be an issue.
Nikon Part Number 1B991-395, the back for the FM3a, fits and works just fine on the FM2n.
And I would think, vice versa...

I sold mine because I couldn't get over the shutter noise. Each time I took a picture, people looked at me!
The FM2n was the loudest camera I ever owned.
The shutter on my old Nikon FM wasn't as noisy.

For those who want the T, Matsuiyastore has a minty for $520.

Yes they are interchangeable but if the solution is to use the door from an FM2N, then the advantage of having the window disappears...
Seems the FM2n got it right to start off with.

Nah... some people like the window; others don't. And if, as you say, the window becomes a possible source of light leak, then you have the option of replacing the foam or replacing the door... Having options is good thing.

The best camera is one that still works!

Pretty camera. I've dealt with Matsuiyastore a few times over the years .. unbelievably good service and I think his prices are very reasonable.

I'd get an FM3A over that FM2/T for the same money.

Aesthetically, I prefer the FE2 and FM2 twins over the FM3A and I don't need the features that the FM3A provides
Never thought of them as loud
Wish the T came in black crackle, though (like the F3)

Don't want the weight of the F2. Don't need a motor drive. But all good.
You could always leave the batteries out of the MD-12, and just use it as a grip handle. Or pick up a broken one for a few bucks, and gut the drive out of it.

I had an FM3A very briefly ... it was actually a purchase by Chang-Sang, and I was just the donkey. I was SO tempted to keep it and do everything I could to cut off all ties and Internet connections to him. This from an OM slut.

the fm3a is a very well thought out camera. everything you need, nothing more and all in the right place.

^the fm3a that im travelling with right now in asia is a lot of fun and i just snagged a 20mm color-skopar for 400 cad$ last night in bangkok too, they also had 2 black and 1 silver fm3a at the store for sale
the fm3a is almost the perfect camera for me, only major nuissance is its hard to see the metering arrows on the side when shooting in low light

I've posted that on another thread about the FM2. It is a FM2 run over by a tank.
