Some people, after disassembling a diaphragm to clean the blades, then apply a small bit of grease to the pivots when they reassemble it .... not for lubrication, but to make reassembly easier by making the pivots stick in their holes during reassembly. This has always seemed a bit self-defeating to me, as it leaves you with some of the same stuff you went to all that trouble to clean out .... but people do it because it does make reassembly easier.

Yes, putting it all back wasn't a quickie. Arranging blades with studs in a plate is one thing, but putting another plate over and matching outer studs to holes is another.
But I wouldn't waste my time to make shortcut with grease as it really is self-defeating. Attempt to clean blades from outside then seems smarter choice to me, even if this is just workaround not solution.

In some cases I've accepted workaround as a solution, life is too short to fix 'em all!

W/A lets to use it and if it malfunctions again, then is time to choose either fix it right now or put away for some time and revisit later. There are days when quests and labor are better than anything else.
