Hi there.

Yesterday I found a local add:Yashica camera for sale, a Japanese Concord gift to buyer. Hm.At first I thought it will be some zoomate or some kind of p&s..but had to call. The guy replies: It's an Electro 35, my father bought it, NEVER used it...it's new, guess it works. He didn't know if it is g, gs, gx,....nothing, but wanted 50 € for it.
I had to see it, You must know i read about these cameras, but I never saw one in my life, it's quite rare in this parts....
So he opened the case, and a BRAND NEW 😱 Yashica GSN was inside.
:bang: OK..don't pay 50 €, don't pay 50€.....:bang:
lucky he had no idea what he had..."hm", I said:"no battery, so does it work? I have to pay another 10 € for the battery, and to discover it doesn't work...there are some fungus on the lens...I don't know.."
What I didn't know that he had it in the ads for 2 months, nobody even called. So he said: "OK, give me what You think it is worth"...gave him 20 €, and left him the Concord 😛
As the front element of the lense goes off easy, I have cleaned what seemed to be fungus, made an adapter and dropped in a Kodak s28 silver oxide, and it works. After using Russian RF's, which I love, it works wonderfull and smooth.
How does it really work, I will see next few days, after shooting first roll of film. I hope it will be OK.
Sorry, I had to share my enthusiasm with You guys, as my wife and my digittaly based friends have no understanding for this kind of stuff. 😎

Just one question, though. As I said, yesterday I rolled in first roll of film, and I want to try the flash, as well as everything else. Yashica Guy wrote that there's no need to put it on the flash position for electronic flash units, that it will sync in any speed.
I have a generic Jessop for PC cable , and a Minolta flash for hot shoe.
Suppose in dim interior the camera will shoot 2 seconds at f8. Okaay, iI mount the flash...I don't need 2 seconds, 1/60 will be OK, but does the camera know that? I noticed that the low speed yellow lamp is still on, with flash mounted and filled.

I think Yashica Guy may have been referring to daylight fill flash, where it will sync at higher speeds. The flash position sets the shutter to a fixed (1/60 sec?) speed for low light shooting.

Thank You, Zuikologist. That sounds more logical. Anyway, I tried it the hard way. As the film is inside, decided to ruin a few shots. The camera acts like there is no flash, keeps the shooter open. so for low light flash, the shooter MUST be set in flash position(the manual says 1/30 sec). OK, thanks again, that is clear now. 😉)

The Electro 35 (any model) speed for flash is 1/30.
I guess it was chosen so to avoid too much ambient light to get the film as well as enabling the use of the old flash bulbs of the ´60s.

Just got my first roll developed. Cannot upload pics from here, but will do tomorrow. I can't belive the sharpness of this little Japanese at f1.7, f2...I used Ruusians,and I like them, but Jupiter has this sharpness at f5.6, not at f2. Industar is somewhere near, but this yashinon is a performer. I love it!!!

I've been shooting Yashicas since 1970 when I picked up my first one in Sasebo, Japan. I presently have a mint GSN, a mint silver MG-1, a really nice black GTN and another great black MG-1. I always pack one with me when I travel into Russia and Ukraine. They've never let me down. I've been to Croatia many times, mostly in Zagreb and with friends in Slovonski Brod, and a couple of other places there. In what city do you live? I've also spent a lot of time in Bosnia and Slovenia, one of my favorite countries. Your pictures are great! Yashicas are fine cameras.

Thank You, Januaryman and Harlee. I live in Rijeka,Harlee, it's the main port in Croatia. To be honest, I have never used Yashicas before I got this one, I've been mostly using "Leicalike" RFs.Also had a Yashica-kyocera 35-120mm AF P&S which was a disappointing experience. But I love this one. Compact and robust, a bit bulky, but I like that anyway. Shot only two rolls by now, wish the rain stopped, it's raining for two weeks now, and somehow i got the feeling that "electro" part of "electro 35" is not very friendly to moisture 😉)

Moretto - I agree that the E35s are good cameras with fine lenses, but I also agree that the "Electro" part is what annoys me most. If you have no batteries, if the electronics go bad, you are out of luck. Othwerwise, fine cameras. I like the Minister D because it will function withoot batteries, AND it was the first rangefinder camera I bought with my own money in 1969. Good luck with yours, my friend.

Thus far, I've never had a problem with moisture while shooting my Yashsica RFs. I always carry a spare battery as well, but I do that with all my cameras. They seem to go out at the most inconvenient time. I once had a Pentax SP that I carried with me in Poland and Hungary and Croatia around the middle
90's, and while in Poland, northern Poland in what used to be called Prussia, it rained for almost a week and my Pentax was absolutely useless. It would fire, but the meter went beserk with the rain - just too much moisture! But as soon as things dried out, it worked fine. So, just goes to show that a lot of cameras, even great reliable ones also go bonkers with moisture. However, if I remember correctly, I also had my GSN with me and got some great shots at Hitler's "Wolf Lair," a hidden city in Prussia where the assasination attempt on him failed, and where he directed the war against Russia. I have some of them in my pictures here in RF Forum.

Ok, finally the rain stopped...to be precise..it was in the process of stopping when I hit the streets...and the morning after..😉
