If you were taking a trip around the world and could only bring ONE of your RFs with you, which would it be and why?

For me it would be my FED-2 because it is small, durable and responds well to sunny-16 metering. Plus, no electronics to poop out. I'd bring a 50mm lens because I don't want to fuss with accessory VFs.

Have a great day, everyone! 😎

I would take my M6, for the same reasons. One lens? Is that a consideration too? My Canon 50/1.5. A little extra speed if I need it, and I really like it. I may try to stow away a 35 too.

Close call between my Fed 2 and Zorki 4, but the Zorki would win out due to better range of shutter speeds. One lens? Jupiter 8, certainly.

Oh, and Rover? I'd take your M6 too, if you would let me 😉

The 1.5 is sweet Joe.

I could be swayed to a Summicron. I really like the way both these 50s capture an image. I can easily see a Sonnar vs Summicron argument being heated and packed with great photographic evidence.

I would take my RD1.
I don't have an RD1. But if I were going on a trip around the world, I would buy one today. Reason? I could not carry enough film.

Fab question!

I would love to say the Kiev but I would probably take the Zorki because I would almost certainly lose it. Also it feels utterly bombproof where as the Kiev always gives the impression that if I didn't treat it with the utmost majesty and respect it would instantly develop a serious fault out of spite. I think its design is based on a cat.

Yep, the Zorki 6 with my beloved yet dented I61LD. 😀

I would take the Canon 7 with 50mm F1.4. Built in meter with no batteries to poop out. Lens is fast, sharp, and "pleasing". And the camera is rugged with steel shutters.

Why not the Nikon SP? The Canon 7 cost about 1/10th as much to replace.

I would take a Contax IIa Color Dial, only for the ease of flash connection over the earlier IIa and the other Contaxes. The lens would be the toughest decision of all; I'd probably have to give the nod to the 50/1.5 Sonnar but 35/2.8 Biogon would be tempting (I'd probably try to cheat and slip the 35 in my pocket unnoticed🙂).

Ralph, do you have any photographic evidence to share with us? The same subject taken with both of these lenses?

Not the same subject at the same time in the same light......

But in my gallery I recently uploaded a couple environmental portraits of my son taken with the Canon 1.5, and there are a bunch taken with a Summicron in there. Honestly, I doubt I would do a direct test like that. I will simply use both lenses in my normal photography and enjoy both. I think both are excellent. You can look in my General and Favorites albums.

Hmm. Probably the Iskra. Compact when folded and, well, what can I say other than "6x6 and a Tessar" 😀 With lots of Tri-X, Plus-X and a travel kit of Diafine.

I've just won a fed-2 with a colapsible 50/3.5 lens on ebay 😀 yay wow (I'm abnormaly happy (even more then normally)) And i would probably take it with me on my world trip. It seems to be the perfect camera, small, accurate rangefinder, i just love the lens (have the same one on my fed-1) 😀

I love my fed-2 already before it has even arrived 🙄 In a few weeks the postman will deliver my photographic dream in a yak-stringed package 😛

I'd take my M3 with the Summicron-M 2/50 and the VC Meter II. Why? It is built like a tank, has a very good finder and got recently overhauled for a sack of gold. Now it has to suffer for that 😀
