Well, I also had 14 years of happy soviet childhood, somehow that doesnt prevent me. My first camera was a Lomo 135 (a very nice, heavy, and loud as hell, amateur camera, with industar 73, i think. 2,8/40) at the age of 7. About 5 years ago (when I only had one camera and 2 lenses!) I decided that it would be nice to find the same camera I used to have as a kid, just for the hell of it. So I found it on e-bay, paid way too much for my nostalgic item, took it for a spin and was really surprised by the good quality of the photos. And after that I just can't stop myself. Sometimes I go about 3 months without buying a new one, but thats as long as I can take it. I am glad I am not alone though, and that I found this support group... I mean Forum.

Don't worry, I strongly believe we are all as much affected as you by these G.A.S. attacks... I didn't even hold my FED-5B w/ I-61 L/D in my hands that I'm already flying ... FED-3 type A, Zorki 3M .. etc.. Jupiter 12... the list is very long!

She said, "The Contax IIA really is a very pretty camera."
@Wayne: She is 100% right... a II (or a Kiev, for that matter) looks good already, but a IIa even better. Even my significant other (almost) started to drool when I unwrapped my IIa.
Another solution: make your wife realise that cameras compare very favorably to other collectible artefacts (such as typewriters, telephones or radios, not to mention old cars) as far as storage space is required. The space needed for one typewriter can be used for at least 4 to 5 cameras. Would all your cameras fill your garage like two old cars would? No! So, in fact, you have a rather small collection! Time to buy some extra!

I'm up to 37 cameras of some sort or another. I intend to get plenty more. If the wife complains, take a picture of her. That'll stop it.
David, thanks, I feel a little better now, as I have "only" 33... though 8 of those came this year alone. Gotta watch it!David Doler said:I'm up to 37 cameras of some sort or another. I intend to get plenty more. If the wife complains, take a picture of her. That'll stop it.

As long as you use them they are justified.

Use your cameras to take pictures of your wife and you'll be doubly justified!
lubitel, I'm in the same boat as you. I started off with a Zenit-B SLR and now I'm going to receive a Zorki-4, a Fed-1 and am looking into buying several others... There's something intriguing about these former-communist devices that leave you spending hard-earned cash for more and more. Maybe this is how the FSU covertly planned to bring individuals like ourselves to financial ruin thus depending more on the communal system hah!
