After recently becoming a member of this forum, I have gotten the urge to buy more of the FSU Cameras. I just won a bid for FED 5C with Industar 61 for 14 euros + shipping. I dont know what I'm gonna say to my wife about buying yet another camera. And I dont think she is going to believe me saying "this is the last one". I said that about 3 cameras ago. The thing is I am already thinking about my next FSU camera, before I even got this one. I have a feeling there is no way out of this circle. I hope I dont become a cameraholic, but think it may be too late.

It gets worse. Soon you will lust for the Leicas and Contaxes that the FSU cameras are copied from.

Is it Pherdinand that just bought a 50/1.5 Sonnar for his Kiev? Dangerous move!
 
don't even mention it to your wife.. unless she's very detail-oriented, she probably won't even notice that it's a new camera.. or use the rational that it keeps you out of other kinds of trouble.. good luck!
 
When my wife starts saying anything about my cameras I refer to her as wife Number 1. I then tell her that wife Number 2 will be a photographer also.

She said, "The Contax IIA really is a very pretty camera."

Yes - there is a critical mass of cameras that adding to will not raise notice. Just don't get anything too funny-looking. My 4x5 monorail was not possible to hide! (coming in three boxes by post) The 4x5 lenses have been :)

Yep... doomed, I keep straying over to OKvintagecamera.com and my fingers hover over the Zorki 1's just because I do not have one.

There is something very compelling about the FSU cameras.
 
Or instead of buying more cameras you could turn to buying increadible amount of film to feed your cameras, buying film is as good as buying cameras and a lot cheaper.

If you think that 25 rolls of film is not enough for a one week holiday, then you are on the right track.

The advantage of this that it will make you take pictures.
 
When my wife looks a little down, I pull out my favorite one-liner:
"You know, I've decided I'm not going to buy any more cameras."

Cracks her up every time.

with three too few, in the last couple months i've picked up four argus cameras, two model a, and two model a2b...as well as a couple batches of diafine and rodinal...and a few items from members here...thanks, in all sincerity
 
LOL, i am somehow resistent to the FSU GAS. Maybe my eastern-block background, 13 years of socialist happy childhood gave me immunity, you never know. I bought one kiev and i find it enough; and never had a lust for feds, zorkis, moskvas, not even iskras. AND, i am planning to sell some stuff soon; like, fixed-lens rf's.

OTOH, yes, Mike is correct, i've just bought a sonnar to fit the kiev. :bang:

Still better than smoking or (excessive)drinking.

Don't listen to this guy lubitel! I never trust guys who pretend, "I only need one." Once you've dove into the FSU mire, the next thing you know he'll be PMing you saying, "Poor lubbie. Let me help you out of your pain. Send me all your life-wrecking FSU gear." Watch him, I'm tellin' ya, watch him!

To really enjoy FSUs, you must resolve yourself to this one truth, as we all have. You're toast. :(
 
To Brian Sweeney: As long as you don't sell any cameras that Nikki might want, it looks like she's in for a pretty good inheritance.

I'm still missing a Zorki-2, but I keep watching. They're rather rare (notwithstanding what EVERYBODY on e-bay says), and not as inexpensive as most other models. Except for that, I have samples of all from 1 to 6. For 1,3, and 4, I have two of each, plus a 5 and a 6. Two?? I guess that is addiction.
 
Another ploy..... er, tactic.... that may work is "Honey, I think you need a new handbag, shoes, dress etc." How can she refuse you a "new" camera when she's just gotten something for herself? :D

Brilliant!! Absolutely brilliant! And while you're at it, make sure the handbag is of material that would look nice on a re-covered FED! You know, maybe a couple of years down the road when she's grown bored with it, thrown it in the top of the closet and won't ever miss it after you've dismembered it and glued it eternally to your favorite shooter. Get the good quailty stuff. Don't skimp here. Nothing is too good for a FED...... urrrr ...... I mean .......... your Betrothed and Beloved Sweetcakes....... your know - - your Wife!!

Hmmm, 14 euros + shipping...one nice pair of shoes = lot more$ IIRC(been a while since I bought this knod of stuff).
Of course shoes,handbags, etc are pretty stereotypical so substitute whatever your wife really enjoys for those.
Or tyr this(if it applies)"Heart o' mine,I can take so much better pictures of the kids now..."
