Hi,
I picked up one of these recently mainly to get SR on my old M42 glass, but as a bonus I found that AF (Evil, yes) was fast on it, but off by a little bit. Any of you had this focus issue with your K10D? Any of you service it at Pentax? Any experiences? I'm out of warranty probably and would have to pay for it myself. Wondering if it's worth doing it.

Cheers,

I understand that with the K10D you can get into the service menus and adjust the point of focus yourself. Just do a search on the pentax dslr forums and you'll find the info about how to do it. Good luck!

I believe this is only possible with certain older firmware versions. I think it was 1.1 and earlier but I'm not sure, perhaps someone else could confirm that. In any case there's lots of information about this on DPReview, and probably also Pentax Forums as you mentioned.

One thing to bear in mind is that, unlike the calibration option on the new K20D, the adjustment on the K10D affects all AF lenses mounted so you can't really use it to correct for errors with a specific lens. This is one reason you should try to be certain that the problem is with the body and not just with some lenses.

What Randy and Matthew said.
Your firmware does have to be at version 1.1 for this to work. Unfortunately firmware version 1.3 disables this nice feature. Some of the threads I saw talk about this and it is possible to downgrade to the older firmware to adjust the AF focus and then upgrade to the latest firmware. Convoluted, but doable.

Thanks for the input. The firmware I have is 1.30 so can't do the Debug tweaking without downgrading the firmware - has anybody done that? I am considering this. This AF issue is on both my AF lenses (both DAs). Otherwise I'll ship it off to Pentax.

Cheers,
-Amit
