Unfortunately ebay sold prices don NOT in all cases reflect what was actually paid. If sold for a negotiated "best offer", the original asking price will be displayed in the sold listing. Or so it was a few months ago.

Usually, when people do that its because they didn't like the answers they were given.

He felt it was getting too argumentative. Not entirely sure why as I gave him good advice and was just asserting that in my responses. Oh well. I still maintain eBay is a great resource for current value of sold items and also what to list your stuff for based on current listings. While many are overpriced, they still provide valuable data and allow you to undercut the current lowest priced BIN item. Of course other resources help as well and all of that goes into evaluating how much something may be monetarily worth.

The OP was attempting to build a case that Summicron 35 Asphs were routinely going for $1500 - or at least less than Ebay prices - in the hopes of convincing KEH to discount a misadvertised lens. They beleived Ebay prices were inflated relative to private sales.

At least personally, I don't see KEH dropping below $1,800 on a Summicron 35 Asph in good condition. KEH tends to be on the upper end of Ebay prices for their higher end gear. Best of luck making your case - maybe you'll get lucky.

I have been looking at 35mm Summicrons for about a year in most of the usual places. I haven't seen one of any vintage or finish for less than $1600. Most are in the $1800-$2000 range. Just my experience.

There probably very, very few (if any) forum members that have bought and sold enough 35 crons to have a good idea what it's worth without looking at items actually sold on eBay.

I've bought 4 and sold 3 of these lenses😀 (though over a period of around 15 years). I've always thought the 35 Summicron ASPH is an excellent lens but I was forever selling or trading it against something that on paper seemed more exciting (the first one for a 28-35-50 Tri-Elmar, the second and third for various flavours of the 35 Summilux ASPH). The first one cost me £795 brand new in 2002 and the fourth one (the limited edition black chrome and which I still have) was £2500 in 2015. There's a story of Leica (and UK) inflation in there somewhere.
