Ken Jarecke and I first crossed paths when we were covering the presidential campaign of Jesse Jackson. He was the new kid in town or, at least, the new kid on the press bus. Hoping that the fresh face on the bus would have stories to tell that I hadn’t heard before, I sat down next to him. We’ve been friends ever since. He’s had an amazing career. It’s summed up on Typepad. https://kennethjarecke.typepad.com/about.html
The world we both worked in, magazine photojournalism, has pretty much disappeared and with it the type of photo stories that it presented. Kenneth has decided to change that. Here’s an interview in Petapixel.

To say that I wish him luck is an understatement. But, in addition to that, in a world in which images have become a second language, that long, complex story on printed pages that can have a long life of repeated viewings is important. It’s also very different from much of the internet’s journalistic photography. (How’s that for extreme understatement?) This website offers information on Ken’s plans.
