Inspired by the great photos in this thread, I recently shot my first rolls of Kentmere 400. Following dourbalistar’s lead, I developed the rolls in Legacy Pro 110, 1:31 dilution, for 5.5 mins. @ 20C. I’m generally pleased with the results. The three pics below were all shot in very deep shade along Purisima Creek near the California coast, on a tripod. I used a Nikon F2 and a CV Ultron 40mm f2.0 SLII lens. My initial impression is that Kentmere 400 doesn’t have quite the tonal range of Tri-X, but that could reflect user error on my part. Anyway, wanted to share these first efforts with this film/developer combination:

Bingley, these look excellent, especially for a first effort with a new film and developer combination! I agree that the tonal range differs from Tri-X, but I can't quite put my finger on the difference. What I do know is that Kentmere 400 dries completely flat (no pesky Tri-X curl), and is less than half the price for a 100-foot bulk roll.

Is this rebranded Ilford Pan 400 or its own emulsion?
Judge Holden, taking a look at Ilford's data sheets, the developing times for Ilford Pan 400 and Kentmere Pan 400 are different. At EI 400, for example, Ilford recommends 8 minutes for Pan 400 in DD-X versus 11.5 minutes in DD-X for Kentmere. And 7 minutes in stock ID-11 for Pan 400 versus 9.5 minutes for Kentmere. The reciprocity charts look different, too. Make of that what you will...
I've never tried Ilford Pan 400, so I don't have any basis for personal comparison. From what I understand, Ilford Pan 400 is only available in certain markets. It's not even listed on the U.S. version of Ilford's website:
