So I am confused. Cameras were what enabled the FBI and Boston Police to solve the Boston Marathon bombing case in record time. Now cameras are being banned for security reasons? We seem to be moving ever surely towards a police state. Soon the only cameras allowed will belong to the government. This is quickly getting very silly.

Ridiculous. I can see reasons for not allowing large lenses but it makes no sense to limit interchangeable lens cameras.

I was there to photograph the Breeders Cup a few years ago. This will insure that I won't be going back. Wish they would pay more attention to trainers drugging horses instead.

I wonder if the "security" they are concerned about is their own security in case one of their staff or security group does something stupid and is caught on camera doing it.

Oh no. Some of the things they were showing on TV were from Security cameras, but some of the clearest shots they got of the suspects came from those horrid "streetshooters."

It just so happens I covered the Atlanta Steeple Chase last week as an event photographer. I have never seen as many DSLRs in one place, ever. Even back in my film days.

Exactly! We're becoming a bunch of idiots with no common sense. If they're concerned about someone smuggling a bomb into the event inside a lens, how about asking the entry gate guys to look through the lens! Geez... they spend all that time looking through backpacks anyway; what's the problem with looking at a lens??

The only way to get this complete "security" overreaction back into reasonable levels is public boycott of such an event. I take it though, the whole story is not an April fools joke.

seriously some of you people are denser than concrete. this is a private event, they can ban cameras and it has nothing to do with your freedoms, it has to do with the rules they have the freedom to establish as a private company.
if you don't like it, don't support the event. speak with your wallet, not with inane and against the rules political posts on RFF please.
