Kiev 4 usage with long lenses

I do have a J-12, but no real finder, so ihave tried this:

and it is absolutely working, but i did also look at this:

http://www.jay.fedka.com/index_files/Page358.htm

and is now in process of building a better viewfinder, with aluminum housing and currently considering how to build in some parallax compensation.

But this thread made me thinking:

The metered Kievs, the light meter is almost newer working anyway so why not strip all the metering stuff out of the housing. This would leave a big empty space inside, drill a hole in the back and install the viewfinder inside ?.
This would be, i think, a rather elegant solution and make the meter-lump on the metered Kiev's useful again, instead of just being a pain in the eye.

Have anyone of all the obvios DIY-Kiev owners/repairmen had this idea, maybe tried it out ?

My meter works just fine on my Kiev 4, and I value it's input :) I suppose if it didn't, I'd say your idea might not be a bad one for someone with a metered body, some free time, the raw materials, and the willingness to operate.

They all have accessory shoes, and I'm not sure how many people use them for flashes, so it seems kind of silly to go to all the work when you can just mount a finder. And I'd rather do as shadowfox suggests - gut another meter and install it. It does strike me that in the years to come, a VCII with the shoe busted off might be cheap on ebay/craigslist/whatever :) And given the current trend towards lower emissions/smaller environmental impact/etc., electronics that require no battery might once again be in vogue. Selenium cells might be the new silicon :)
