you can never know until you have camera in your hands. and if you cant see camera first ask seller everything you can so if you get something that dont work you can get yur money back. and every kiev in working condition is great no matter what year. 🙂

There is a general prejudice in favour of early Kievs, but I think it's sometimes overstated. As another member recently pointed out, the engineering is excellent - slapdash assembly is the problem, and that can nearly always be put right. Buy the best you can from Oleg, Fedka or someone similar and worry about the vintage later 😀

It's not well known but Svetlana got a transfer to Moscow and made the Zorki 4 that fell to bits in my hands two weeks ago. Still, I kept the lens, the case and the back.
I own FSU cameras of various vintages and all respond well to surgery. The more I use them the more I have respect for them. Sturdy and well made - problems are often caused by poor repairs. Jocko's advice is very sound. Overhaul doesn't cost much and the camera will function well for years. They're like Morris Minor cars!

jvx - 1961 has been called the "vintage of the century", so it figures the Bordeaux was pretty good. But how much is left from that year?? From what I hear, 2000 is also supposed to be up there.
